Hi I'm wondering if anyone could help . We just bought a fiat doblo cargo 1.9 jtd sandwich van . Upon driving it after a few miles we noticed lack off power and was black smoke coming from the rear but wasn't much at the time . Carried on driving up a hill I had to go into 2nd gear too gain more speed doing like 20mph put into 3rd then a 40 seconds after the was a noise like a pipe popped off or something looked in mirror to see cloud of smoke left behind looked like a cloud of black greyish smoke from what I could remember. After pulling over engine was still ticking over like should so I got my partner to rev whilst I watched the exhaust it looked like hot embers coming out for a second so we turned it off . Asked a mechanic across the road in a garage to take a quick look I stared it and revved it no embers were coming out the exhaust! Just black smoke . So got recovery home now have to get to bottom off it . Starts well every time . Had it running since been home for 40 mins with no problems stationery but took for a spin and was still lack of power but not black smoke now whiteish smoke . The garage man mentioned the the Egr valve could this be the problem ? I. Noticed on the front down pipe exhaust in middle looks like the braided mesh type stuff had a burst ? Could this helped release back pressure from a clogged exhaust system/ cat ? I've herd these clog up quite abit . I'd appreciate any help thanks
