Hi all
The fuel gauge is showing empty and the orange light is flashing showing tank is empty and the gauge does not move even through the tank is full of fuel has any one any ideas as to what could be the fault

Regards
Richard

if was me would check actual clocks on dash, have seen needles before breaking on fiats, also check fuel pump in the fuel tank, for bad connections or faulty parts on the pump itself.

Ok thank you for responding so quickly the van is running fine and over the last month or so the fuel gauge has not been showing correctly amounts in accordance with what’s in the tank so I’m wondering if the sender had gone in the tank or fuel float ..does the fuel tank need to be dropped to gain access to the sender in the tank or is the access from above in the back of van it’s a cargo van

Update I’ve now found the fuel sender which was located under the wooden boarding in the back of the van does this unit send the signal to the actual fuel gauge and how does it come out do they twist out I know it’s got the float connected to the bottom of unit

It twists out, it's on a thread and possibly if like mine you will have to tap it gently with a hammer and screwdriver etc.
Clean the area first to stop dirt entering the tank unclip the hoses and electrical connection unthread and lift out on a tilt as the float will catch on the sides.
I found that the electrical connector on mine was coming undone, and be prepared with clean rags and plastic bags to stop fuel spill.
I carried out the work when the van had been unused and fuel pressure had gone down.

I had air entering the system but the problem was not by the sender or tank it was fuel return and the plastic connector on top of the injectors, for the first time in 4 years it now displays a steady 53 mpg on the trip.

Hi creon
Thank you for the write up that will help me out ..my fuel gauge has stopped working the needle has gone right back to empty and the low fuel warning light is permanently on even though it’s full of fuel
