well my doblo is still messing around and despite the fault code saying boost pressure sensor, no one seems to be able to tell me where it is,
i really want to keep this doblo, but im at my wits end

sometimes it will run great all day then the next it will keep cutting out between every 5 secs and 2 minutes
im wondering if it may be the fuel pump relay or glow plug relay if someone could please advise me as to their locations, are they in the fuse box in the engine compartment ?
and if someone could tell me where the fuel pressure sensor is id appreciate it

Re: Turbocharger boost pressure sensor.
Air pressure is measured in the manifold or air intake after the turbo by a Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor (or MAP sensor).

1, On the these I believe it's down the back under the engine cover/airbox, in the top of the manifold.
Seen here in the last few pics
http://www.fiatlinea.org/fiat_linea_...i-t3681.0.html

2, It detects what air pressure is being fed into the engine and along with the Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF sensor) the ECU can work out the available oxygen, then works out the correct fuel strategy.

3, It's a sensor, so it will receive a signal voltage (often 5v), alters it due to whatever is happening and returns this altered voltage back to the ECU.
It works like a balloon with a little air in it, put the balloon in a vacuum and it expands (though the amount of air inside stays the same), put it under pressure and it contracts (again, the amount of air inside stays the same).

4, As already stated, it's signal, along with other sensor readings help the ECU work out fueling stategies, so will influence the injector timings and bandwidths, basically the more oxygen available, the more fuel it can throw in.

As boost pressure is not constant, it will also influence turbo control in some applications with modern Variable Vane Turbos (older VGT's and wastegate turbos tend to control themselves via a vacuum loop), so as manifold pressure rises, the vanes will contract and limit boost.

Engines can only handle a certain amount of boost reliably, so in general the faster the engine/exhaust gases, the higher the boost, the more the vanes/wastegate will contract and vice versa.
If the ECU detects too high a MAP signal, it will protect the engine by tripping limp mode and limit power/boost.

5, Again boost is related to engine/exhaust gas speed but vanes and wastegates try to control boost to a useable level.
Generally they will boost to around 1 bar above atmospheric pressure (which is near enough 1 bar at sea level) but it's often reported by diagnositic tools in kilopascals (kPa's).

hi varesecrazy thanks for the reply, sorry if im being a pain with this,

the year of make is 2003
its a 1.9 d sx doblo
i believe it does have a french engine, but i have included a pic of the engine plate if it gives you any further info on the engine details,
i can do most mechanic things within reason but this is baffling me lol, it sometimes runs lovely but then you can always tell when its going to start playing silly buggers because the rev counter starts going up and down and the engine speed increases and decreases on its own,,
i really do appreciate all the help

Dont feel bad about asking :)

We just need the full info to be able to help ;)

Murfman seems to have told you all about turbos on a car with no turbo..?

This is the 1st thread of yours where I recall you mentioning the rev counter..
To me that points to an electrical issue.. but I am unsure of thr method of sensing rpm..

Have you gone through all the earths ?

im sorry im a bit dumb when it comes to checking earths how do i do it,
one other problem ive noticed is that the temp gauge very rarely goes above the 1/4 mark so i changed the coolant temp sensor just in case this was making the ecu give incorrect fuel mixture levels but even with a new sensor it still doesnt go above the 1/4 mark unless in traffic

A simple way to check earths is with a volt meter.
Neg lead to battery Neg at the battery then go round the earth points with the + probe making sure that you only touch the terminal connected to earth you should get NO reading, or less than 0.2 of a volt if any higher the connection or wire is suspect. Do these checks with ignition on
The only place you may get a higher reading (1volt) is between the NEG battery terminal & the earth point\ chassis when cranking this is not good & suggests the main earth wire has poor connection or is not up to the job.
Have seen this over the years if more than a volt either double up on wire or replace with heavier cable after making sure all earth points are clean & corrosion free

Sounds like a bad thermostat..

Earths.

Unbolt the earth tag.

Give it a good rub over
with emery..scotchbrite..wire wool.

Once shiny.. bolt back to bodywork.

well took the doblo in to a mechanic to be looked at and it came up with a fault on the diagnostic erratic fuel metering#

so he said there is a fault somewhere with the fuel metering regulator at the fuel pump or the wiring going to it or a fault with the ecu
so any suggestions or ideas, with pics and locations would be greatly appreciated as he said i need to find a diesel expert and that its going to be expensive

The odd meter readings all make me think you need a basic electrical check..

Zero point chasing fault codes until then. :(

As poor feed back signals to dash ore probably passing through ECU also.

Decent software will highlight what individual sensors are reporting. :)

So.. do have a specific running isdue.. or just weird dash gauge readings?

Was the engine..or emissions light on in the last week???

Yes
. It is a FRENCH engine .. ;)

hi, thanks for the replys
all i can tell you is when you first start the car you have to give it a couple of revs and it will even out and run fine this can last for 10 mins to 1 day, then the engine light will come on and the rev counter will keep jumping between 800 and 1200 rpm then it will cut out, it starts first time again and will continue cutting out as soon as you stop in traffic and let it idle ,
if it is the metering part of the fuel pump, would fitting another fuel pump be the answer,

These french motors dont use the standard FIAT common rail tech.

From the posts I have read on here there is a Lucas pump.. or another brand as an option.

Figure out which you have and SEARCH that.
To find the correct info on here ;)

Lumpy running from cold:
Are the glowplugs working ok..?
