Hi to all,

I was thinking of buying a 1.9 105hp 5 seater Doblo. 160,000 miles.

Its a 2008 in nice condition and now that the motor tax is rated by co2 emissions

its only 390 euros.

My queries are as follows.

1. Is the 1.9 engine bulletproof as like the older 1.9 tempera engines.

2 Has it timing chain or belt.

3 If it is a chain should it be changed like the belt version, although they say it

doesn't need changing.

4 The DPF. It was said by they salesman that the DPF cleans itself at 60 klms per

hour, unlike its smaller 1.3 multijet which requires higher speed of 80 klms (50 miles)

The reasoning behind the statement was that the larger engine has a higher torque,

so therefore requires a slower speed to operate the DPF. I do not know if this is

true or just a sales gimmick.

5 Are there any areas of concern which need to be looked at before considering a

decision one way or an another. And are there any weaknesses to consider.

Thanks for looking and any help and advice would be most appreciated.

Hi,
I've got the same model and its been really good engine wise.

I think the 105 bhp (that i've got too) does not have a DPF which is why I looked for the 105bhp version over the 120bh one.

It has a timing belt - which does need changing when service interval indicates and make sure you change the serpentine (fan) belt too as these can shred and rip into the engine and damage the timing belt (happened to a friend of mine)

Mine hasnt needed much doing to it other than a new clutch and dmf at 100k miles - £900 though so!

Hope this helps

Whats poor is ; everything in the cabin! trim falls off, window wiper linkage falls off, eats tyres and front brake pads (could be my driving) and front wishbones. Earth wire corrodes

Whats good is: good engine, cheep to run (i get 49 mpg with no motorway miles just round town and a, b roads) massive load area and headroom also so ugly no one wants to nick it.

Its one of my favourite ever vehicles and I've had loads over the years.

Hi carmonkey,

It sure does help alright, and in all the news is good good and more good. Like you have pointed out its a timing belt and as you have mentioned the serpentine belt
MUST NOT BE OVERLOOKED as the consequences don't bear thinking about.
I didn't know it had a dmf.........and the cost!!!
Is there any way of knowing if its on the way out at all?
Sorry for not replying sooner, but thanks a million for your reply....and the good news.
John.

Hi Carmonkey,

I remember the tempra was something the same but an awesome motor on the road.

In all, nothing to scare or worry about in owning one with this engine. Thanks for the heads, and the ins and outs of the 1.9 105hp. We have a 1.3 multijet but we're taking it off the road, so it'll do for spares whenever needed.
Carmonkey, thanks a million for the info, you've put my mind at ease(y)(y)(y)

The jtd is a solid engine.. not as tough as the old td.. but pretty good.

Cambelt.. not too bad

Glowplugs are hidden round back of motor :(

DMF.. costly if it fails.

Yes they are good on fuel..

Being a 105 it may have no dpf..

Hi varesecrazy,

In all a sound engine and more like the older engine.....Like myself.

I've never owned a car with dpf and know very little about them.

If I went looking for one...........where is it.........and what does it look like?

I've seen some cars have cannister which when operated it cleans the system.

Any clues to where one looks???

Thanks alot for your information and advice most appreciated.

John.

Hi John. You are very welcome. :)

The 'soot trap..dpf' is like another silencer under the car floor.

Should have sensor cables ;)

Look on fiatdalys website for excellent modern ePER style parts views.

Ive dodged dpf so far.. supposedly fine if you do decent runs.. but another potential bill : headache

Hi Charlie,

Thats lovely, I'll be looking for another box/silencer on the exhaust system.

I'll take your advice and look at the fiatdalys website for more info. Funny you mention faitdaly

I have a 2003 cherry picker and its a 2.5 turbo multijet iveco.

Thanks for that Charlie.
