Both top clips on my front windows have come apart I've ordered new ones on eBay, the passenger side cables has been sheared by the motor and bottom clip snapped causing window to drop.

Options are replacement from scrap yard or repair kit of cable and clips.

What are your experience of the repair kits on eBay, are they worth the bother and will the cables be up to the job after I've found the correct way to spool them.

I know there is a doblo in the scrap yard here but it's covered in moss and really needs 12v to remove the regulator, second hand on eBay are £40 compared to £7 for the repair kits.

I repaired my front window last week... my cables had become frayed and the clip had snapped. Took me a few hours to work it out and repair, but I reckon I could do one in an hour now. Try the kit first. I got one with all the clips and cables and it worked fine.

After removing the door card, the first difficulty is getting the entire regulator assembly out. You need to rotate the bottom upwards so the whole thing is horizontal, then slide it out. Take it out with the motor attached. Takes a lot of fiddling. I think the window will need to be all the way up for this, otherwise you'll be pressing against the glass and might damage it. You might need someone to hold it up.

If respooling the cables, bear in mind that there is a specific way to do it - if you put the wrong cable end in the wrong slot on the spool there will be too much tension and you'll struggle to put it all back together. If this happens, swap them around. For the sake of a few quid I'd buy a kit with new cables and replace them while you're at it, even if the old ones are ok.

I've not had good luck with second hand parts. Always "something" wrong that means I'll be doing the replacement again in short order.

Same thing happened to my passenger side window. Ebay had a replacement kit for the cable and clips. No idea of the quality (it's still working) but they fit perfect and the price was a tenth of Fiat OEM pricing.

My outlook on parts is such.....if it's not important (IE: windows cable, door trime, battery, etc), get the cheapest you can.....if it's important (brakes, tyres, engine, etc), get the best
