Doblo 2010 (263) Handbrake Adjustment

Hi

Hopefully a simple question/solution. Handbrake lever coming up to high, do you just tighten the cable or is there something else you need to do in the drum?

Thanks in advance

What sort of pedal travel do you have push down slowly & gently can you feel the foot break change when hand break is pulled on difficult to explain, if you can could be auto adjusters not working
Adjusting HB is usually not required if break shoes are ok or the self adjusters not doing their job.
In our present Doblo driven hard we have not fitted rear shoes or adjusted HB in 152K now front pads & discs are a different matter

Agree with @500e that auto adjusters should keep the hand brake set perfectly.

Unless....... you had a moron fit your rear break shoes (which I did) and screw with the adjusters (which he did) stopping them from working properly (yeah, another trip to my NEW mechanic) in which case 100 in labour (mostly cleaning and adjustments) will sort it out.

I've just read your reply and rushed out to test.

There is no difference in pedal feel when I apply the handbrake, but the handbrake comes up about 10 clicks before its engaged. Which doesn't seem right and is quite annoying.
Can I do something to reduce that amount of movement?

Re: Doblo 2010 (263) Handbrake Adjustment

It is very unusual to have to adj hand break cables if the rear break adjusters are working ok.
We have never had to adj HB on the Doblos we have had, all with 150k at least, &
only one needed rear shoes.
There will be a sequence for setting the HB with new cables but the No of vehicles I have seen in the last 40 years with Hand break cables adjusted due to non \ incorrectly working adjusters

Do I remember seeing a thread complaining about wrong sized break shoes ? or has age caught up

Re: Doblo 2010 (263) Handbrake Adjustment

My guess its running original shoes as its only done 78,000 miles and I would be surprised if anyone's been in the rear drums at all.

I think I'm just going to jack it up and have a mooch around and see how it all works. I'll have a look at the lever as well, pulling back the gaiter.

Thanks for your comments.

Re: Doblo 2010 (263) Handbrake Adjustment

Hi

I found there was a panel behind/at the back of the center console. Inside was where the cable came from the handbrake lever. I did a few turns of the adjuster there and was able to take up the slack. Very simple and it's been working a treat now.
