Can anyone advise on the speed limit for my van..54 plate 1.3 multijet doblo cargo on a single track road...Telephoned dvla and they say van was registered as commercial by Fiat...on my logbook it says CAR DERIVED VAN but classed as N1 so i pay commercial rate tax £252.

So can i do 50mph or 60 mph on a single track road.

Thanks

If the registration document says Car Derived Van then it's 60MPH on single carrage ways (assuming national speed limit in force) and 70MPH on dual carrageways and motorways.

The problem is some Doblos were registered as commercials and as the van was type approved first it's not really car derived. It's car technology and perfomance and if the V5 says car derived there is no issue. Pick-ups are even worse, 60MPH if 2WD, 70MPH if 4WD and / or registered as dual purpose. Judging from the number of "transit" sized vans passing me on the A14 today when I had the cruise control to a GPS determined 70 MPH most van drivers don't care, but I understand some police forces are much more likely to ticket you than others. Now speed cameras are going digital maybe they can link them to the DVLA computer and issue vans with tickets.
