Hi, My 2006 1.3 multijet, 52,000 miles starts out ok but after driving for a while smokes quite badly when driven, the tick over goes up to around 1000 revs and it smokes badly, If i stop the engine for a min and restart it, it returns back to normal, The mass air sensor has just been changed so its not that, Any ideas?

Hi Charlie, Thanks for your reply, I got the car after it had stood for 18 months, I had to fit a new exhaust system including the dpf, It starts and run's very well
and has no other issues besides this smoke problem,
When first started it run's ok and tickover is around 800 revs, on driving the car it runs well but sometimes it starts to smoke as if from excess fuel and the tick over is around 1000 revs, I had it checked out by our local garage who could not find any fault or codes to explain this and no fault codes come up on the dash,
Ive just changed the air mass sensor but its no difference to the problem,
This smoke problem is random as I have driven the car hard and also driven it carefully but it seems to be random as though something is sticking, If you turn the engine off for a short while then restart , the tickover returns to around800 revs and the smoke clears,
Any ideas would be welcomed, Cheers Mike,

Thanks for your reply Charlie, I will look up the nearest Fiat dealer for a diagnostic and go from there, Cheers, Mike,

Have you changed/checked the oil level ?

Hi Mike.

You do not NEED a dealer visit..

Just access to the stored parameters of the engine ECU.

DPF equipped cars need several things resetting after an oil change...or they tend to run poorly..

MultiECUScan software can do all that is necessary.

Let us know what area you are looking to find assistance.

I tend to travel the M4 corridor most weeks.. if that helps.

Its your DPF regenerating, its a common issue with the 1.3 engine, mine does it quite often, you can get it sorted by removing the DPF and a remap etc. Must admit it can be quite embarrassing to have your pride and joy smoking line a bitch now and again

hi ,:)

people have suggested it performing a DPF regen,
the rise in revs .. and "over fuelling" sounds right.. :)

but that's often accompanied with a running of the cooling fan - which you didn't mention.., :chin:

Hi Guys , Thanks for all the replys to my question,
Im still having the same problems with the Doblo, But it sounds like it must be going into regen mode though if you stop the engine for a few mins its clears up and runs ok again, I did notice in one reply that there was a question about the cooling fan running while this was happening and yes it does the revs come up to about a thousand and the fan cuts in, but it smokes like mad and i cant continue to drive it like that and have to stop and switch off, I tried to get the egr valve off the manifold but it looks like I will have to remove the manifold to get at the bolts,
Any further help would be very welcome, Cheers Mike,
