Re: Doblo 1.9D 2003 ENGINE FIRE

I've not heard of any catching fire before. Was it engine trouble or a wiring fault?

Sounds more like a control fault. Over-revving is usually caused byt eh failure of the governor, or whatever bit of electronics replaces it. I suspect the fire was the result of that, not the overheating

There must be some sort of actuator, sensor or control that's around the head area, or an area that needs to be accessed for head replacement that gets damaged. Rather worrying though don't you think? With a vehicle that has an ECU surely there should be a rev limiter anyway?

Hope you both got that problem sorted now!

Re: Doblo 1.9D 2003 ENGINE FIRE

Was it not due to turbo sucking in oil?,normally reason for diesels to over rev & explode.......ask any transit owner

Re: Doblo 1.9D 2003 ENGINE FIRE

The engine concerned doesn't have a turbo.

Re: Doblo 1.9D 2003 ENGINE FIRE

Like T says the usual way for a diesel to overrev is for it to burn oil stuck in air trunking and so not run off the diesel at all. Its the only way the engine can remain running when the ignition is switched off. A fuel cut solenoid would cut the fuel if the ignition was switched off. If this failed the engine would simply run at max safe revs held there by the governor.
