Technical 1.2 temp sensor removal problems

Hi, Im trying to remove the temp sensor from a 1.2. However the socket will not fit as there seems to be tabs on the washer underneath preventing the socket from gripping. Has anyone else had this problem? thanks...this is sending me crazy!!!
