Hi to all,

I plan removing an EGR valve assembly including solenoid off the fathers Doblo 1.3

tomorrow. My first attempt to do this particular operation, but I've looked here

on various threads concerning EGR removals, so plenty to go on.

As luck would have it, I have a spare EGR assembly including solenoid on the

bench. LUCKY ME!!!

It needed a clean up, but required very little work. Looks like new.

My question is this.

While I have the spare on the bench, I'd like to know if the solenoid is working.

The solenoid wire plug connection has 2 pins inside the plug. Would it be safe

to put a 12volt (battery) supply across the 2 pins to see if the solenoid plunger

opens and closes. Or would I do harm to it or not.

Thanks for looking. Hope you can help me out.

Thanks a mill.

John.

Hi,
Yes it is safe to connect a battery across the coil to test it. The plunger should open and close quickly with 12 V. Note that the coil will generate a high voltage pulse when disconnected so don't have your fingers between the wire and battery when you disconnect it or you may get a shock.

MAGIC!!!......................JOBS OXO!!!

Thanks a mill for the heads up on that.

Always safer to ask if you're not sure.

That'll be my first job tomorrow morning.

Thanks Robert G8RPI for your quick reply.

I will pay attention when disconnecting..............I won't loose my hair,

'cause I don't have any!!!
