Dear All,
I have an 05 doblo 1.3 multijet. My problem is the engine management light comes on intermittently. It happened twice on tuesday and it wouldn't go over 100 kmph.

I took it to the main dealer where i got it (still got 2 weeks warranty for what it's worth) but of course the light hadn't come on that day and the useless ***** reported nothing wrong. On the way home it happened again and the light didn't go off after standing overnight. when it happens there is a sort of >>COUGH<<. I can't describe it any better.

One thing worth noting - tuesday was wet. The day I went to the dealer was dry.
Until late afternoon when it started to tip it down. And immediately >>COUGH<< the light came on. Any ideas? Water getting into the EGR or MAF wiring? Something mechanical?

next time it happens i'll take it to the bloke down the road and get a computer on it but in the meantime I wondered if any of you clever people had any thoughts? I've read the engine management posts on here and they weren't that like what I've been seeing.
Thanks all.

First off - and this really should be a sticky ;) - check all your earths ESPECIALLY the fat fella down to the engine block, especially where it meets the engine block. Give the lead plenty of pulling around and make sure it's secure in the connector - they can dry joint and just sit in the cup of the connector - then make sure the connector has a good clean make to the block.

If you suspect damp, which is probable, pull all your sensors and clean and dry them. WD40 over the outside of anything electrical won't do any harm either.

Turn passenger air bag off.....see if problem still there. If its not. Like my 1.9 uv found the problem part....how 2fix it ....when u have let me know lol

Hi gonzodoc,

You mentioned that the wet conditions may contribute to the problem. With wipers ON, draw from the battery, could it be a suspect. As others have said, water getting in air stream somehow, or onto sensors.

John.

hi again ,
almost certainly NOT an engine management issue:rolleyes:

use the SEARCH function to find thread related to rear light cluster cleaning;)

Still living with this but not showing up often. Finally managed to login again after password trouble... thanks for all the helpful suggestions guys esp interesting to me is the air filter tip thanks Charlie

same car now showing new problem. Should i add it here? Apologies if this is wrong... Now Brake light fuse is repeatedly blowing. Bulbs are all still good so that's not the culprit. Googled it but nothing much showed up. Anyone seen anyone like this?
Other observation: some salts (but no obvious liquid) around battery.
Other half said she turned on ignition and there was a ping noise from fuse box. Then she turned engine over and dash went out (its on same fuse).

I suspect this is all related,

have you got any aftermarket kit - towbar,
alarms, etc..??

not unheard of for the technician to disturb / upset fusebox wiring points.:bang:

interesting point varesecrazy (are you a fan of the great classical composer?).
Nothing like that currently fitted and no Electrical work recently but something was fitted once; a loose red wire terminates a few inches from battery positive. The end is tarnished and it doesn't look like it could touch anything (I'll tape it up) and there is an aftermarket button on the dash that the Dealer couldn't explain.
I'm wondering (long shot) if the alternator is over voltage and gives funny battery effects on long trips. Had the car 6 months and never had this before last (long) trip (several 3-4 hour runs).
Central locking failed a few months ago but fella fixed it in 5 minutes and charged me a tenner.
