General 1.6 16v (263) poor heating

Hi all, I have a 2012 1.6 16v Doblo that is just over 10k miles.
Im really struggling with the heating system, it seems to take a fair drive to get the temperature gauge to budge, and a bit more to get any reasonable heat out of the system.
Having had the previous model Doblo, which had a really good heater, I am a little more than disappointed, so can anyone else give an opinion on their heater? I have noticed that there are many sellers on EBay listing replacement thermostats,,,, so is that sending me out a signal?

Temperature gauge comes up pretty quickly - within a mile or two.

Heater takes an age to warm the car up nicely though.
I'd say mine takes a good 10 miles to make any real heat in this weather.
Airflow through the car is pretty poor, so having the fan on makes a big difference when the heat does arrive.

Any generic code reader will tell you the real water temperature, and this is a good indicator of 'stat failure. A low water temperature won't be doing your fuel economy any favours either.

My gauge takes about 4 miles to start a reading, and as you say about 10 miles before any real heat is evident. I have decided to put it back into the dealership to check it out as Im pretty sure that mine is not right. Hopefully they will be able to sort it, the only problem is if they don't think there is a problem,,, they will bill me for the time :-(

This is where a £5 reader will pay you - if it shows a code before you take it to the dealer, they can't tell you it's nothing and bill you ;)

I have got an OBD 2 reader, I haven't used it on the car yet but maybe I will try it today. Thanks all, I will keep you posted.

Plugged in my Multiscan today, only faults can be read on my device. So I think I will still let the dealership look at it. I also noticed today that after a short warm up and getting the gauge to just around midway, when the booster fan is then turned to full boost the gauge quite quickly drops to below a quarter & the air feels to be getting cooler too.

PTC heater, that's a new one on me. Reading up a bit I can now see that there is a problem with modern efficient diesel warm up's. That's thrown a spanner in the works here,,,,.

Mine generally seems okay. Most of my journeys start on a dual carriageway so the car is quite quick to warm up.

Mine does have one 'feature' which I hate. Being the Elegance MPV it has climate control. However, when starting from cold it refuses to give max fan speed on screen demist until the secondary glow-plug circuit switches off which can be 3-4 minutes into the journey. Why anyone thought it a good idea (when they programmed the system) to not allow max screen demist from a cold start is daft.

yes its on the options list (52Y), it works really well hot air starts blowing after around 1 minute, was well worth having, on my old 1.6 doblo the heating was not good, took ages to warm up, was fine when the engine was up to temp, but put the blower on full and the engine temp would drop down, I doubt anything is wrong with it, its just how they are

Thanks for the advice there, I think I have already drawn that conclusion & cancelled the booking at the supplying dealer. Might have to invest in a pair of driving gloves to keep my hands warm ;-)

Just an update, I recently replaced the timing belt set, coolant pump, coolant and thermostat. I pleased to say that there is an improvement with the heater performance. It is quite an expensive part, and not a great job to replace but we'll worth doing.
