hi all, just joined so thought i would ask on here , i am a taxi driver & thinking of buying a 2005 doblo dynamic jtd 1.9, just need to ask a few questions if thats ok ,
it has had 1 owner & has a full s/h with 91000 miles on the clock

what i want to know is
1) - how long is a "clutch life" on a doblo?
2)- how long is the timing belt life?
3) - do the dpf`s go reguarly?
4)- are they good on fuel?
5)- in a nutshell, are they any good?

i dont want to buy it & have all the problems listed above as it will be a taxi ( if i dont work i dont get paid ), a few pals have said they are great, others have had problems with the dpf, sliding windows/sliding door latches etc , also is £3000 a good price for a 2005 doblo with that milage & 1 owner & fsh? thanks in advance for any advice

Yes it looks like the sx model Witch has fog lights and 2 side loading doors. They certainly look like alloys to me

It looks spotless mate. Id try to knock them down the price abit tho myself

Id offer 2200 and go from there. In my opinion they are goid cars but u can pic them up used quite cheap

Tbh looking at it its probly worth it but theres no harm in trying to get abit knocked off. Mine was up for 1295 but i got it for 750.

i dont think i wil be able to haggle, as its getting delivered from london to newcastle for nothing ,not bothered about the price tbh , can anyone answer the questions though Ahhhh

With due respect I personally reckon it's well overpriced. I'd be having reservations at half the asking price. Go on What Car and get a free valuation just to give you an idea what the market value is. Little heads up, put in a fictitious e-mail address and mobile number because you will be inundated with those companies that have just the cars for you for a fee.
Without knowing the full history, it's a bit hard to say about the clutch/DMF. You wouldn't know how it's been driven. My old 05 1.9JTD had 125k on the clock when I scrapped it. Apart from the clutch pedal riding a little high, the clutch was fine. If you do a deal with the seller, I would try and get some sort of guarantee that they will rectify any faults shown up with dashboard lights coming on. I've known it where sellers clear the codes whilst the deal is being done only for them to re-appear a couple of weeks later.

Double check this, but I don't *think* an 05 JTD has a DPF? Mine a 2004 and hasn't got one.

1.9JTD - if you break it, you have really tried. To my mind one of the best engines ever made. If it's a 105 8 valve you aren't taking anything like what the lump can give performance wise. It's well under-stressed.

Build quality is on a par with anything else out there, and better than a many. What does go wrong is usually stupid and easily and cheaply fixed. Parts are dirt cheap and easy to come by.

Some silly jobs can be a moo, but thats no different to any other modern vehicle because of FWD/transverse engine. My alternator ratchet went (EVERY car has these, and they are as s**t an idea on all of them) and for that, you'll need a pit really or ramps - but as said - it's nothing you won't have happen with any car and it will be just as much a PITA whatever make or model...

Wheel bearings can be a weakness, but again, not expensive, and not a terrible job to do.

Not sure about the price because it's a very specialised vehicle you're looking at.
Just do yourself a normal business analysis with a sensible amount for "what if" maintenance wise and go from there.

They seem to be well thought of as taxis, so that should tell you something.

PS: I would recommend an ItalianSpeed box, it really has transformed mine, and it's a far better drive. You'll appreciate the torque it with people on board, even though the bog stock engine has enough grunt.
The best £75 you'll ever spend ;)

Sinny is it a big difference with the box fitted? Im really thinking bout getting 1

Just do it. Seriously. It's a different motor. Around town I struggle to take it over 1500 revs. She just goes smoothly along in the 1200 - 1400 rpm range - so god knows what the fuel consumption is (not that I care too much at 92cents a litre over here ;) )

Mine was always dead as a Dodo until it hit 2000 rpm, then it came alive as the turbo came on boost.
Now it's got all the poke you want up until 2K.

Then the turbo comes in around 1800 now, gradually then at about 3K rpm it's like being picked up and catapulted forward. (I have a boost guage fitted, I can see when the boost coming in)

Overtaking I do without a gear change now in fourth - you just have to be sensible, because if you stamp on it when you're doing around 3,500 rpm going up an incline and the turbo is on boost you can slip the clutch a tad.

But the point is, you don't need to drive it like that. If you drive it properly and feed the power in sensibly, there's never any clutch slip. (And I'm pretty sure my clutch isn't the greatest anyway - wasn't new when I bought the van)

It now runs quiet - I had a couple of noisy injectors, and the extra pressure has sorted that out.

Best of all, I bought mine for 20€ second hand on eBay, so to say I'm chuffed is the understatement of the year... but, knowing what I know now, I'd have bought a new one in a heart beat.

And they're a good company - no problem when I said I'd bought it 2nd hand, did they have a manual? Straight through by PDF with a friendly letter of thanks.

It's a bit of a moo to get the old plug off the fuel rail (1.9JTD 105) because it's hidden away, but you manage it, and the rest is straightforward.

All chips are the same. If you remove them, and take the battery off for half an our everything goes back to the factory setup.
If you drove it like a tnuc you'd no doubt screw the clutch in short order, but apart from that I can't see as how anything bad could happen to a well maintained engine in sound condition to start with.
Before I bought this I had a long look through the forum using search, and they came up with good feedback, and thats why I searched for them on ebay and found this one.
Couldn't find anyone who had anything but positives to say.

ah well, looks like a no go now, just had a chat with the dealer, he wont budge on the price & fogot to tell me there was vat on top, about 600 quid( ??) so 3,600 is a bit steep for a 05 doblo:eek:, thanks for all the advice anyway chaps, will just keep looking

He's having a giraffe.
He'll probably end up getting 3 and a bit for it with VAT. It's very specialised with all the disabled functions.
If you don't need them, you'll pick up a standard version for less or a much later one for the same money.
