I've got a 2006 Doblo 1.3 MultiJet with a DPF that's whinging at me about an oil change. Having paid for a timing chain before, I'm going to get this done right away so I don't knacker the DPF or the engine.

Turns out you need to reset the service counter and/or a counter inside the ECU. Can any garage do this and what do I need to ask them or do I need to take this to my local Fiat dealer, who is incidentally entirely useless?

you need to reset BOTH the service light / mileage counter,
AND the "oil degradation index",
MultiECUscan is good for that;)

You will need the registered version of MES, an interface (USB ELM-327) and an "Adaptor 2" (Red) lead. You can get the adaptor on ebay or Amazon make sure it is a "modified" type (no 120 ohm resistor across the CAN BUS). Ebay item 161936272712 is typical but I've not used that seller. Note that a KL/Vag-com interface won't do the oil degredation reset on your vehicle. MES will run on any laptop with Windows XP or newer. At £20 foor the interface and 50 Euros for MES, it will soon pay for itself. Any garage can't do it. My Croma 1.9 16V had 5 Fiat dealer service stamps in the book for oil changes but only 3 oil degredation resets on the ECU so it seems even some Fiat dealers can't get it right.

Nice one thanks for the reply.

Can I query (but not set) the oil degradation counter and the mileage counter with anything cheap/free software-wise without fishing out for MES?

Found a cable on ebay and it's winging it's way from China now (y)

I'm an ex-electronics engineer so this stuff is quite fun really.

Hope you bought a USB one - the Bluetooth ones are abysmal (IME)

Hi @pointyhat,
Yes I think you can query the number of resets with the free version of MES. Can't be sue as I have a Croma and registered version. As it's free you can try first

. I always recommend downloading and trying the free version first.
If you are near Cambridge I can do it for you and show you how good the software is.

G8rpi is correct, you can check /query the number of resets / services / oil changes / regenerations etc with the free software, however you cannot adjust or update the info without the registered version.

There is a a guide to what you can/ cannot do with the free version on their website.

Hope this helps

Thanks all for the help! Oil change done on Wed as was the MOT at the garage. Would have done the oil myself but I've got nowhere safe to drain it at the moment.

The interface from the auction above arrived in the post this morning. More toys to play with :)

Works perfectly. Turns out they did set the oil degradation as well as the service indicator so good job all around. Good kit to have around as this b*****d vehicle like to throw error codes at least once every 6 months.

Now a nice set of Wera sockets are on the way from Amazon and I'll do the discs and pads on the front and another year's maintenance done.

Thanks again all! :worship:
