Hi. I have an 04 plate Doblo Van 1.3 multijet. If I leave the vehicle for more than an hour or so, the interior light will not come on when I open the doors... until I put the key in the ignition... If I can find the keyhole in the dark :)

I have only had the vehicle since June with delivery mileage only. It hasn't bothered me up to now, but with the dark evenings approaching it is going to be a real problem.

Also this is the first vehicle I have ever owned that will not allow you to leave the side lights on without the key in the ignition... Is this normal?

I have looked through these pages for other owners with the same complaint but I seem to be on my own. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Bob

Side Light: I think this was explained in an earlier topic - that's where I got it from. If you look at the ignition lock you'll see a black plastic button. Push this in and turn the key in the opposite direction. The key will turn one dtente and the side lights will come on - you can then remove the key and voila! parking lights.

I'm afraid the other bit is probably eccentric FIAT electrics. I've got an interior light that keeps coming on and I have to raise or lower the passenger side electric window for it to go off. It's been back once and a whole new door sensor fitted - to no avail.

Thanks for the info on the side lights... Obvious now. (y)

The cigar lighter works fine and the interior lights work ok unless the vehicle has been left for an hour or so. (n)

OK here is the technical explanation for the interior lights. If I am wrong with my assumptions then shoot me (n) .
Assumption one, the vehicle does not have central locking (y)

The body computer on Doblo controls the interior lamp, the body computer stays live for a period after ignition is switched off, and then shuts down.

Now remember the body computer operates the interior lamp (y)

If the body computer is shut down it needs a signal to wake up and switch the interior lamp on, the signal for this is a door open signal from the central door locking mechanism .....oooops no cdl (y) So basically because the body computer doesnt know you have opened the door the next signal for the body computer to wake up is for you to operate the ignition (y)

Central door locking owners dont have this problem.

I have rewired several Doblo to be seperate from the body computer for interior lamps.

That makes absolute sense, thank you.

Does this mean that I won't be able to fit an alarm without rewiring?

I will get hold of a wiring diagram and have a go at rewiring. Thanks

Bob
