Afternoon Guys!

Just looking for a bit of advice really, hoping some of you experienced Fiat owners can help! :D

Basically, had an oil leak on my Fiat Doblo 1.3 MultiJet for a few weeks now. Had a look underneath and it turns out the sump is rotten in a couple of places, hasnt been losing a mass of oil over the weeks but the patch of oil on the drive in the last week or so is starting to grow, so im wanting to get it sorted pretty sharpish.

Had a price from a one man mechanic for about £160 to replace the sump and oil etc but i would like to try and do it myself as can find the sump plus the oil/filter etc from local motor factors for around £60.

So basically i am just wanting to find out if it is something someone with a bit of motor-savvy can attempt? is there any majorly technical tasks involved with removing exhaust or gearbox or is it just a case of bolt on and off and maybe the odd gasket?

I thought the diesels had an alloy sump that resists corrosion, my petrol 06 plate, has a steel sump and that had to be replaced a couple of years ago.
It was very expensive at the main dealer, frankly I would jump at £160, the sump should be supplied with a tube of gasket sealant and its quite a tricky job to ensure its sealed all around and it needs a long time to set.
That's all I know.
 
For my sins of being a Dad, I had to do a metal sump replacement on my daughters 03 Punto. Different car I know but dare say the principals are the same.
The sealant was purchased with the new sump. I saw the old tube in my garage the other day so when I get chance I'll post up exactly what it is. IIRC correctly it was Granville high temperatures black.
A set of long reach socket extension with knuckle joints came in to it's own. Mine was a 1/4" set and it done the job. I do remember, once all unbolted, the old sump took a bit of persuading to move. Rubber mallet and leverage but be careful not to damage the block mating surface. Also take care not to damage the oil lift/strainer thing inside the sump when removing. Undo the exhaust at bottom of the branch manifold at the should suffice for the amount of free play needed. I had the car front up on a set of ramps, so laying on my back, took me approx. 4-5 hours as a DIY mechanic skills.
 
Knocked a hole in my jtd sump,...just unbolted the obvious bits and instant gaskited another on no probs.
Spect you will get a second hand sump for £10 on eBay.
