I have been plagued by this warning coming up when I start the car. The warning light does not stay lit when the engine is running. I took it to the Fiat garage who had a look and assured me the abs was working.

Just recently the battery started to feel its age and would not start the engine one cold and frosty morning. I decided to replace the battery with a new one, after all it was 8 years old.

Guess what, no more ABS failure warnings on starting up. Could the starter motor be draining so much current from and old and tired battery that there was nothing left for the diagnostics?

ps It was not the only problem that had been picked up on starting but disappeared after the alternator took over.

Any similar experiences?

Flat or tired batteries cause havoc with computers on cars,if you ran a diagnostic on it now i guarantee there will be a big list of faults relating to low voltage.Sometimes just disconnecting and reconnecting a battery and clear problems.Computers are the future but they can be a real pain in the backside!

dont worry about it as my 07 plate 1.9multijet has done it for years and the abs system works fine, mine does it first thing in the morning before i go to work.

I have this problem too on my 1.4 sporting...

(Asr & Esp failure??)

However mine also cuts the power in the car??

It's not until I bring my foot back off and then onto the accelerator peddle that it's comes back!

Anyone know what I can do about this - or heard off anything similar?
