Hi all, recently changed gearbox on my fiat doblo cargo 2001 non turbo and i decided to replace clutch at same time..not knowing which way plates went round i put longer part facing flywheel..put all back together and found that unable to select gears whilst engine running..i have bleed slave cylinder and when i push pedal in arm moves to max position and stays in position.pedal does not seem soft nor firm enough so not sure what is wrong..does anybody no 1.which way plates should be or 2.what else could be wrong..cheers

The clutch plate will have "flywheel" in small writing on one side somewhere near the centre, this needs to obviously go to the flywheel.

All clutches have this to avoid this sort of issue

thanx for reply..i fitted a valeo clutch which had no markings.i even asked two other people if they could see any markings as well..i was hoping that somebody had fitted a clutch on doblo non turbo and remembered which way round it went..really don't want to take it all off if its the right way round..

Valeo/Fiat clutches usually have "Lato Cambio" (Gearbox Side) printed on one side.

Hi,thanx for reply..i think i remember that being on plates..is that put on the higher side of plates saying it should be put towards gearbox as i can not see from photo.????this will tell me if i have put them in tre wrong way round...wish i had taken french at school now..cheers davren

The Italian ;) "Lato Cambio" in my picture above is on the higher side of the clutch disc.

The raised (higher side) central metal disc should go towards the gearbox. It goes inside the friction face of the pressure plate.

If you've assembled it the wrong way round, you may have distorted the clutch disc when you first pressed the clutch pedal. In which case, you may need another new clutch disc.
