Hi,

I'm new to this forum and looking to purchase a pre 2006 Doblo 5 or 7
seater with the jtd 1.9 105 engine, pre DPF for the same reasons others
have posted.

The base model would be fine, but because we will be touring in hotter
southern europe with it, using it as a basic camper with the seats
removed we wanted air con, which unless an extra at time of purchase
seems to only be available in the top spec model.

My first question therefore is how easy or difficult might it be to
retrofit the aircon taken from a scrapped doblo? There isn't much
maintenance I don't do on my cars, so it would be good to hear from
anyone who has done this modification, or knows what might be involved.

Cheers, Neil T

I don't know of anyone on this forum who has retro fitted aircon to any fiat model, many years ago I retro fitted aircon in a couple of cars and can whole heartedly assure you it is very very difficult and time consuming.

You'll need to remove the whole dash and heater box, (draining all the coolant from the engine) install a completely different heater box and rewire the dash for the aircon

Then in the engine bay, install compressor, new belts, pipe work which requires special tools to connect and separate, you'll need a brand new receiver dryer, and then again lots of wiring in which includes directly wiring into the engine ecu.

Then you need to take it to a specialist to have the whole system vacuum tested, oil and gas added and fully leak tested.

You will need to find the exact same model car In the scrap yard with aircon as the car you own without (same engine) otherwise the compressor and pipe work will be different.

And all the parts could cost you as much as £1000 all in.

So it is far far better to start with a car with aircon if what you want is aircon

Thanks Andy, not what I wanted to hear, but so obviously what I needed to
hear! I will take your advice, thank you again.

Best wishes, Neil T
