Hi, after the new engine all was fine exept the engine management light... Rolocks to that I thought ... it will do till the MOT next year.

Then... (2004 JTD by the way) it started to splutter at 1800 RPM sort of bunny hop in all gears... (seemed to lack power too) then it started to bummy hop between 1800 and 2500 RPM, ok at other frequencies though.... then it started to cut out at junctions etc but started ok... now it wont start unless it has not run for a few hours and will only run for a few miles... ... ... etc

What fault code reader will fit ... (an ebay link would be appreciated) and wot is wrong with it.

After reading the forum DPF (if it is the DPF it should run if I disconnect the pipe from the exaust manifold... right?) fuel pump, Egr, cam sensor.

Any more bright ideas.

Thanks.

Hi, still got the probs... I bled the output from the injector pump with the engine running and it worked for the rest of the day... when I did it again... same prob.
I disconnected the DPF ... no joy, I disconnected the EGR ... no joy.
It seems that most of the sensors can be disconnected and it still runs (not for long though).
If I disconnect any injector it cuts out, if I open the fuel line to any injector it cuts out.

How do the injectors work (I understand that a sensor (not sure if it is cam or crank) tells the ECU the timeing and, (I asume), a throttle potentiomiter tels the computer how long to open the injectors.
So why 2 wires to the injectors...??? Surely if a current through a coil in the injectors moves a magnet to open the injectors only 1 wire and earth to the engine is needed... so why 2 wires per injector? ... is there a sensor or a pressure switch or some such in the injectors? hmmm any injector explination would be welcome.

Are there any bleeding tips out there.

Thanks ... baffled baffled baffled.:bang:
