HI My 2005 1.3 doblo failed MOT on rear anti roll bar bushes. Has anyone done this job? Could you possibly share any tips or pointers?
My guess is I've got to lower the fuel tank and possibly the exhaust too?
Any help would be much appreciated

Help? Anyone? If not it's saturday morning tomorrow and I'll have a go. I'll post how it goes in case it helps someone else .

Sorry I can't help, I have been so busy this week and haven't had a second to myself let alone look at my Dooby :(

I could have a look tomorrow, but that's likely too late for you

Sorry,

Andi

So two hours in and turning into a bit of a nightmare. I've lowered fuel tank unbolted anti roll bar bushes.; However the metal parts are welded together. So I've decided to get the anti roll bar off the car. However when I try to undo the drop links . They just spin round and round.GRRR. Any ideas with how to separate the drop links without breaking them?

So for anyone else attempting this I'll try andpost photo's later ,but for now
1.You need to buy the bushes and the drop linksas these won't come off without cutting them off. You may be lucky but if you no where near a supplier or it's the weekend you better having these parts.
2.Rear of car up on ramps.
3. Undo screws around fuel filler
4. Remove fuel tank. ( I just lowered mine on trolly jack as could not work out how to undo fuel pipe to tank!)
5. Unbolt anti roll bar bush metal plate things. Do not try and undo the big bolt. This stays done up
6. Unbolt or cut off and later replace drop links.
Next part to follow

So Job done I'll try and put a guide together.

1. I suggest you also have ready two drop links. As when I did the job I had to cut these to remove the anti roll bar.
2. Reverse car on to ramps, remove the spare wheel to give more access.
3. Remove screws holding fuel filler to car. 20140913_081733.jpg

20140913_115055.jpg5. Remove bolts to brackets that hold bushes and anti roll bar to car.
6. If you can undo drop links do otherwise cut bolts to drop links with angle grinder and remove all from the car.

7. The bracket holding the bushes to the bar are pressed together. You will need to find a suitable thin chisel to split the two parts at one end[/ATTACH]

8. Note i have screwed the anti roll bar bracket to a large piece of tree to hold everything steady. Bend the bracket just wide enough to get the anti roll bar bush off and to replace the new one.
9. The tricky bit is getting the bracket to close tight around the new anti roll bar bush. I used a chisel in the hole to lever the two pieces back into position and then two g clamps to close the pieces together. I then drilled a small hole through both pieces close to the bush a used a nut and bolt to tighten the two pieces together.
10. To ensure the bracket gripped the anti roll bar bush tightly I then used a blunt chisel to bash the bracket all the way round.
11. Put everything back together and rear end of car now silent when going over bumps. Horray. Hope this helps someone as I've got loads of help from this forum.20140913_104018.jpg

One final thing.
This only became difficult because I was not prepared.
In the end it was a straight forward enough job.
Make sure you remove the spare wheel.Have the drop links to start with and go straight in with the angle grinder as soon as they won't come off and you'll get this done in half the time.
It took me all day but I had to do a two hour drive in the middle to get the drop links and cutting discs for my angle grinder.
Also don't try and be lazy like I did,get the spare wheel out the way and you'll have loads more room.

how hard was it to drill the original welds out? Im probably going to have to attempt this as the bush's on my doblo are shot..

You do not have to cut the drop links off as they can be stopped from spinning by using an Allen key in the end and a spanner (19mm) after initially using a socket to loosen it.

Thanks for that Seanhyde that has answered the question I've just posted as to whether the tank needs to be removed. I've already replaced the links, fortunately I found out that an Allen key allows you to unbolt the knuckle joint before resorting to the grinder. So I'm going for it tomorrow as I've only got one week left before the vehicle has to go in for its retest following its CT (French equivalent of MOT) failure.
