I drive a 1.9D non-turbo Doblo. My mechanic tells me the van is in "limp mode". It starts and idles ok but it accelerates sluggishly. Local Fiat agent says the diesel pump rotor is sitting at the wrong angle so the pump needs to be replaced. Problem is a new pump here in deepest, darkest South Africa costs almost half the price of the van!

There's no-one around here clued up enough about this engine that can fix the thing. My searches have shown that there is a way to lock the pump and then set its timing. One guy even mentioned using 6mm bolts instead of a special tool to lock the pump. Is this the way to go?

Any suggestions would be welcome.

I have recently changed the pump on a 1.9jtd. Not sure if it the same as yours but on the jtd the pump has no timing. It is just a high pressure pump. Before removing it the engine has to be turned to tdc and locked in position so that crank and cam timing remain in correct position to each other and then timing belt removed.
OR, if you do not want to remove timing belt the gear wheel on the pump can be clamped in position using 6mm bolts through it into the casing. Then undo large nut on gear and then 3 pump fixing nuts. Pump can then be removed leaving the gear wheel behind with timing belt still tight around it.
Thats the method I used.
When fitting new pump the shaft does not have a keyway and can be fitted with shaft in any position.
I fitted a second hand pump. Cost £30. on e bay. I will now rebuild old pump using repair kit and new bearings. Cost for parts approx £40.
Hope this helps.
Alan.

Wish it were a JTD but it's not. It's a 1.9D. The engines and diesel pumps are different. Most Doblo drivers here drive the JTD. I'm the only fool!

Thanx for the replies anyway.
