Copper seals diesel fuel injector.

Is it common or reasonable that the fuel Injection Copper seals need replacement in a 2008 Doblo 1.3 Multijet with 80k on the clock. (being quoted 190.) This car had problems previously with the DPF system which are now resolved. Kept clogging and not clearing hence needed servicing more often. would apprecite any advice.

Re: Copper seals diesel fuel injector.

As far as I'm aware, the only reason to replace these is if the injectors have been out.

However, on saying that, the Mercedes ML used to suffer from blow by. This was basically the injectors coming loose and allowing the fuel to escape & combust, which allowed a huge build up of carbon.

I haven't heard of this particular problem on FIAT though.....

Yes it is rather common that they start to leak at some point.
If the injector comes out freely, there's no problem at all, but if it's stuck due to carbon build up...beware...!!

Re: Copper seals diesel fuel injector.

Soak the injector with penetrating oil for at least a week.
Unbolt it for a few turns ( but not completely....) and start the engine for just a few seconds, and in most cases. compression will free the injector.
Unbolt it, take it out, put a new copperseal on, and retighten with the correct torque, done.

End result Fiat dealer stated it took 15 hours labour, had to get in speacilised tools, replace pipes to jets. Billed for 12 hours cost me €900 feel ripped off.

That's a lot of money for an inexpensive seal...

Apologies for straying off topic, but would the above described blow by problem from the injectors cause excessive pressure in the lower part of the engine block?
I'm wondering if this could be the cause of the excessive pressure in my 1.9JTD

it's a very commonly used / serviced engine ,

I'm not sure why a FIAT main dealer got the job, ?

what else is wrong with it then..??

Re: Copper seals diesel fuel injector.

Regeneration system not working , injectors clogged, fuel lines replaced as leaking, clutch relaced , steering problems, wish bones, door slides, boot suspension arms. oil changes evey 5/6 months.
rightly or woringly I always stay with dealer to keep history right. Not nice driving a car you cannot trust.Only good thing the space it has. Fix It Again Tomorrow so true.

Re: Copper seals diesel fuel injector.

Guess what good old reliable Fiat Doblo 1.3 Multijet goes faulty again .Regenerating every 2 weeks after being serviced. Injectors leaking again after dealership in Wicklow fixed so well and so expensively just a year ago, then when owner questioned re same and other repairs tells me to bring the car elsewhere. Mechanic reckons they have been leaking for quite a while now. Globe plugs faulty oh and clutch pedal connection just manages to break. Well done fiat what a wonderful car. (So many similar problems in your vehicles ,coincidence perhaps.) 8 years of problems I have endured. You should be proud of the vehicles you’re producing. I’m certainly not a proud owner and will make every effort to let peolpe know.
