Hi.


My EGR valve is playing up and putting the EM light on the dash.


Someone has suggested blanking it off with an aftermarket kit but I worry what the side-effects will be?


Assuming that Mr Fiat has spent a wad of Lira on R&D and concluded that an EGR Valve was necessary, would this hack be detrimental in any way?
 
I have blanked off the egr valve on a few different vehicles including my 2002 doblo.
Usual side effects are smoother running, more m.p.g. and no more having to clean or replace the egr valve.
 
I'm currently in the process of getting my own doblo 1.9 multijet active 105 (2006).

I'm making some enquiries about DPF removal and EGR removal, is this 'blanking off' process for the EGR, to be recommended over a complete removal and why ?

Ok but it will soon, why do you want to remove dpf and egr?, they are there for a reason.

I've had sone bad luck on previous motors and i prefer not to be forking out the guts of a £1000 for repair of DPF, plus there are benefits of taking out dpf and doing a remap from what I'm reading.

saying that this is an EGR thread so i just see a lot of stuff about egr blanking and wondered if any issue could be prevented by just blanking it off, why is it preferred to keep the egr valve functioning anyway?
 
In a nut shell... doing both of these will be a mot fail plain and simple.

That is not true.
Removing the dpf is an mot fail but removing or blanking the egr valve is not a fail.
In fact the egr valve is not part of the test.
The egr valve is there to reduce the amount of nitrogen oxide emitted.
Nitrogen oxide is not one of the gasses checked when doing an emissions test for an mot test. That is why it does not affect the mot emissions test.
Plain and simple.

I have blanked the egr valve on at least a dozen vehicles and never had a problem with mot.
Easier to blank instead of remove.
 
105 bhp model doesnt or is at least quoted as not having a DPF, 120 Multijet, definitely.

MOT is currently DPF VISUAL inspection only, no electronic testing as yet so many are splitting a DPF box, removing filter and welding it back up. It must then be removed from the ECU software.

Blanking EGR on both my old 105 Doblo and 115 Stilo has upped the MPG. The Stilo runs quieter and feels smoother as a result.

The EGR is there, as already stated, to reduce NOx, but it doesnt do the job very well at all.

Nitrogen oxide gets produced more in traffic jams and cold engines, especially those that think driving 2 miles to work in a diesel is a long journey. Later model diesels have been found to produce more NOx than earlier models due to the concentration on reducing carbon emissions.

DPFs do not remove NOx, only particulates. Catalytic converters do not remove NOx in diesel engines.

Diesels have long been known as nasty but now they are the new super nasty
