2012 Vauxhall Combo oil warning light flashing

I have a 2012 Vauxhall Combo van which is basically a Fiat Doblo. It's the 1.3 engine model and last time I was driving it the red oil warning light started flashing (oil can symbol). I checked the oil level with the dipstick and it's far too high. It was serviced 3 months ago and the oil level was fine last time I checked it. What could be wrong?

Have you checked the coolant level in the expansion tank?

Coolant level is about o.5cm below minimum line.

Re: 2012 Vauxhall Combo oil warning light flashing

Can't remember where this came from, but it is on here somewhere. When the particulate filter purges, it uses fuel to burn the carbon off at high temp. Somehow, excess fuel is dumped into the sump, which can lead to the sump level rising. Stroke of genius? The "oil" in your sump will now contain a lot of fuel, which will not lubricate the engine well. Might be difficult trying to separate the fuel and oil. Another oil change is the right thing to do.

Apparently the situation is worse if the van is used for lots of short journeys, just what a small van is for. Now hopefully someone else will add their bit and clarify, reinforce, or squash my info.

Re: 2012 Vauxhall Combo oil warning light flashing

Who done the oil change? Did they reset the oil change counter?

If not this needs to be done and oil changed AGAIN! This is vitally important so the oil change and counter are not out of sync otherwise you'll be heading for a potential world of pain and great expense!

From what you've mentioned sounds like its got a DPF. Flashing oil light is indicating an oil change is required immediately as DPF counter has calculated the oil will now be too diluted with diesel.

Re: 2012 Vauxhall Combo oil warning light flashing

The latest Doblo with a DPF requires an oil change every 12 months, but not a full service until up to 21k depending on the model. My oil light flashed and the manual told me that this is what the problem was. It worried me to start with until I read the manual. It started flashing exactly 12 months to the day from its previous service.

There is no guarentee that the Vauxhall version is the same but there must be a good chance that it is.

Are you sure?

Normally only needs oil change when the car tells you (this is the case on my Bravo with DPF) as when it requires an oil change will vary depending upon driving conditions and the number of regens undertaken, so what you've said it the very opposite of other models with DPFs. If car hasn't indicated oil change is required after 24months then it should be changed at the 24 month mark.

Only if the car is driven mainly in town for the majority of the time should it be changed every 12 months.

I've checked the Doblo handbook and it confirms the above also.

Re: 2012 Vauxhall Combo oil warning light flashing

I dug out the manual and service book to double-check in case my ageing memory was remiss. The exact wording is;

"The engine oil and filter should be replaced when the corresponding warning light on the instrument panel comes on or every 12 months"

My light started flashing 12 months to the day from the previous 21,000 mile service.

Re: 2012 Vauxhall Combo oil warning light flashing

Reset oil light after service... that is very important. And don't skip the oil change either.

1-turn on the ignition key,
2-press the gas pedal and hold it,
3-press the brake pedal 7 times without relesing the gas pedal,
4-keep pressing the gas pedal for 60sec.
5-Release the gas pedal and turn of the ignition key,
6- Wait for 60sec.
Then turn on the ignition key and start the engine. Check if the service/oil change light turned off.
That's all! The vehicle is Fiat Doblo, works on Linea, Qubo/fiorino also vauxhall combo.

for 2012 forward models.

Iíll be tryng this on my 66 plate combo later. Ive only done 14k in 2 years and have just done an oil and filter change. I thought a service light would come up at 2yrs, as im nowhere near the 21k interval, but it hasnt so im not actually sure if ive got one. My manual suggests it only has one if you have the multi function display instead of the basic radio setup, which is all Iíve got.

A word of caution:
You are clearing the SERVICE light.. fair enough.

BUT there is bound to be a DPF on any 2010 or never engine.

They have in built oil condition monitoring.

This is linked to a REGEN of the DPF.

So you need to clear the OIL DEGRADATION INDEX too.

Normally need software for this:
Multiecuscan can do it easily.

@Bmwdumptruck a lot of service warnings
are 'adaptive' so it could be well under .. or over.. the set mileage depending on the journeys it has made
