i have noticed one of my rear number plate bulbs is not working on my 07 plate fiat doblo, had a quick look but couldnt see a screw etc for removing the cover, anyone help ? thanks choc

The black bulb holder just slides in it's metal slot, it's retained by a small flat pressure spring, and then it comes out - can't remember which way - reverse the procedure to get it back in . It's the easiest bulb to change, ever, I reckon.

It's a while since I did one, but there is a description of the method in the handbook.

Last MOT I got an advisory for number plate bulb.
As I went to change it (outside my house), youngest arrived home "what you doing dad?"
"one of the number plate bulbs has blown"

He banged the shroud covering the bulbs & it lit
almost 12 months on & they both still work.

Good old Arthur 'Fonz' Fonzarello (y) (you young 'uns will need to look for "happy days" on youtube :D)

thanks for your help guys, went into work this morning and we keep the bulbs in stock, result !

A few years ago the place that service Mrs_G's Doblo let the new boy do some of the servicing on it. One of the numberplate bulbs had blown.

The cretin levered the housing out of the door bending the door skin, cracking the lamp unit and scratching right through the door paint!!!!!!

Needless to say I had a conversation with the owner about who I would accept touching my vehicles from then on. The owner was very apologetic and the cretin soon left his employ. The garage has an excellent reputation and obviously an idiot employee could put that in jeopardy.

As has been said above, when used correctly these must be some of the easiest bulbs to replace on any vehicle.

went to change the bulb today and when i removed the holder the bloody spring fell inside the door, looks as tho it was broken b4 and someone had got it to stick we double sided tape !!!!!!!!!!! ordered a new one today from fiat,13 quid so not to bad

Damn! I'm very sorry about that. Probably costs about 20p to make as well  I paid an absolute fortune for a couple of self-sticking door kick plates too. Never mind though, the price is soon forgotten.

Why don't people just read the bloody handbook, carefully, and then do the job, carefully? Too many idiots just have a go, and then bugger everything up for people.

The bulb has definitely gone this time.
So, following the guidance here, I tried to replace said bulb.
Only to find that the bloody lamp assembly wouldn't shift for love nor money.
Ended up removing the interior plastic.
Turns out that, for me - 2006 model - the way to do it is to pull the lens assembly on the left hand side THEN push on the right hand side, moving the whole thing towards the left.
This compresses the spring clip and allows the hooked retainer to disengage from the body.

To refit, make sure the hooked bit is in place before pushing the assembly firmly into place on the left side.
Oh, and once the assembly is unclipped, it's quite a tight fit under that plastic guard so needs a bit of jiggling to free it.

Luckily, I had a spare bulb - it's one of those tiny 5w capless bulbs as per post #5 ^^^
