EML came on, looked at the code - p0401. OK, so it's the EGR - unusual really as I do tend to drive it hard every so oft.
So, took the dobby out for a thash down the local dual carriageway - keeping the needle between 3k and 4k rpm. Cleared the code & the return journey was sweet.
A week later, light comes on again. This time, I took the EGR out. The plunger was a bit sticky so gave it a good old clean out with the air line & everything looked fine.
Another week goes by & during a test of my dashcam (70mph on the dual carriageway), the EML comes on again.
This time, the codes are p0401 and p0403.
Jeez, what a PITA. And it's not like the EGR is that easy to get at...

The metal gaskets are normally ok TBH, you can hear the air leak if you rev the car and you will probably notice it while driving anyway.

Any other symptoms or unusual thing you have noticed recently?

It all seems normal tbh.
Everything's gone well for the past week then, without warning, at 70mph, about 3k rpm, the eml comes on but this time, with the two codes coming up.
Maybe I wasn't as thorough as I could have been when I cleaned the valve?

Thing is EGR is not working at 70mph so if it is faulty it must be stuck open therefore altering the airflow readings but this would also have an effect on low down power. I would blank off the EGR for a week to see if fault returns.

Been mulling that one over & never really noticed. But took the old girl out this aft & it's really crap at picking up - foot full to the floor & it takes a while for everything to catch up. Even the turbo doesn't spool up as easily for those wheel spinning quick off the mark getaways.

Hi all
I have similar driving issues with my 1.9 Multijet 105. It is crap getting away and flooring the throttle does nothing more then make it pick up slower. If l back off and just tickle the gas it is quicker!!!!
Had the EGR| off and cleaned, thinking of either fitting a new one or blanking it off. Is it OK to blank off on this engine, l have read conflicting threads, and if so fully blank or with a hole in it.
Not technically knowledgebale enough to know what to do for the best but can wield spanners well enough to do it. What a pig of a job to get the thing out, need more joints in my arms!
Thanks to all

Kinda sounding more EGR, again I would blank it off for a week.
(y)
cheers for that T, just waiting for my personal mechanic to get the bits - about time I saw some return on my huge investment :D

@ fletcher7751. The old girl's never really been a great one for pulling away, especially out of junctions etc, but I did find that by blipping the throttle, it would 'encourage' a hasty getaway (guessing it spooled up the turbo for that extra oomph?).
Trouble was, it's a balancing act between having enough grunt to get away & not enough to simply be sat on the line with your front wheels spinning like crazy.

Going off topic here - but I thought it was worth a mention.
Overheard a couple of pikeys today, they buy old DPFs & 'recondition' them.
Trick is, plug one end, fill with a solution of caustic soda (drain cleaner!) & leave overnight.
They are then sold on as 'reconditioned units' - much higher than scrap value.

Sounds plausible - but I'm no expert

OK, bought the blank plate & managed to pin down my lad to doing the job. Cleared the fault codes & took the old girl for a blast, end of the main road @ 35mph in 4th, overtook a new-ish 500 going onto the dual carriageway & the difference was amazing!
Floored the pedal & the car pulled away like a good-un.
Have to apologise to the owner of the 500 for leaving them in a big sooty/smoky cloud:D
Did about 20 miles, dropped into Tesco for some provisions & the EML stayed off the whole time.

I've read of people on here "backflushing" with a pressure washer,
perhaps they do this after the caustic rinse..??,

Charlie

Been blanked off for a week or so now & tghe engine's running like a good'un - and maybe I'm imagining it but I seem to be getting higher mpg. (OK, OK - that's based on how far the needle generally moves/ distance travelled).

Anyhoo, the EML came back on a day later (P0401) so I've not concerned myself with that.
I wondered, though, as my MOT is due soon, will the EML be a fail or advisory?
