hi, my clutch just went at 118k, it made a load of noise when you depressed the clutch, and gears were hard to get. Some garages were frightening the life out of me, one said he wouldnt do the job unless he replaced the dual mass flywheel, and quoted me £700 !
most prices were between 400 and 500, I opted for motosave, who quoted 350 plus vat, with a 2 year gaurentee, when they striped it down, it failed because the thrust bearing had collapsed, the plate wasnt worn out, and there was no scoring on the flywheel, it drives fine now, is it necessary to replace the flywheel everytime you do the clutch, or was he being over the top ?

Mrs_Gs Doblo is on it's 3rd clutch, still using the original flywheel.

The guy that does the work on our vehicles assesses what's necessary and only replaces what is really necessary.

err scoring? there was no scoring on my Mondeo flywheel but the arc springs were past it and when using the LUK flywheel tester it was marginal so i replace it. no visual look or shake side to side can tell you the condition of a 118k dual mass flywheel, and i know you wont want to hear this but at 118k knowing you were having to split the engine/box and change the clutch i would without question have paid the extra to have the dual mass done, that is unless you not intending to keep it a few more years..
