Hi,

Wifes had a Y reg 1.9D Doblo for over 6 years and its been a joy.

She rang me couple of days ago to come help her as car steering had gone funny.

I drove it home and although it drove, it was erratic when turning, felt like it wanted to go in its own direction and was making some nasty clunks. Basically undriveable.

I've got it on axle stands, steering seems fine, but looks like the rear gearbox mount is worn.

Driveshaft, rotate a wheel and you hear from where it goes into gearbox, a massive grind and every 360 degrees a noise as though a piece of metal is dropping.
You can spin a wheel and the opposite wheel will not spin but the 180 degrees they seem to catch and both spin.

Wife now tells me its been jumping out of 3rd now and again over the last few weeks, probably 1 or 2 times a day. Hoping thats just to-do with the gearbox mount.

Could it be worse than just the driveshaft? Wife's getting a new car but I was going to take the doblo, but don't want to spend much money on her.

I've got a video of the driveshaft turning.

Cheers

Kev..

i think worse, car cannot be driven for a start,i expect if drive shaft cover was removed bits of metal or tripod on inner joint may have gone, and if slipping out of gear wear internally in gearbox, when shaft locks it tries to move the gearbox aside.(y)

Thanks for reply dirtyhands.

You can see the gearbox move on my attached videos, as though its jamming. but when I rotate by hand its in neutral.

Best thing to do is take off the driveshaft and take a gander ?

Not exactly a pool of debris. More a lump!!

Such a shame as only just passed MOT. But scrap she is

Well, wife has already set her heart on a new car.

So I've to decide to sell as is, for spares or repair or get the box done to sell.

Its a 2001 1.9 Diesel , 108k, with FSH.

Sell as is or get work done to sell?
