Re: Doblo 03 JTD - Dual Mass Flywheel to Solid State Flywheel

As anybody ever investigated an option of either welding up or bolting up the original DMF?
The biggest mod would be finding a new clutch plate with inboard springs to replace the original 'solid' plate with no springs. The tension take up spring mechanism of the DMF would normally do the job until they fail.
For my sins, my hobby is off roading and for this, my toy is a modded Vauxhall Frontera with an Isuzu 2.8 (factory fitted) engine. Unfortunately the 2.8 Frontera as factory fitted DMF as standard. Alot of guys have done both the bolt up which requires counter sunk bolts being fitted or welding up option. With the weld up, great care is required to ensure the flywheel is totally flat after the weld up or else judder will the evident. To do this spacers are inserted into the DMF and clamped whilst welding to ensure the accurate flat surface is achieved. With the bolt up, accuracy is more easily achieved.
Due to Vauxhall and Isuzu both being under the GM umbrella, alot of cross-overs are available between the Frontera and Trooper. The Troopers are fitted with solid flywheels and that does present another option. The biggest blessing is that the Trooper spring loaded clutch plate can untilised in the modded DMF of the Frontera. All the guys I know that have modded their DMF's vouch for the successful transformation with the added bonus of cheaper clutch replacements in the future.
I wonder if the same can apply with the Fiat and other similar designed car groups
