I have always wanted a car with roof bars and the Doblo is my first car to have them, and very nice they usually look. They are really practical as when you add the cross pieces you can add Top boxes, bike racks, move that 8 foot sofa, yadda, yadda, yadda.....

However, (I bet you knew I was about to say that)

they come with unexpected consequences. I might not have had them had I known that they would be used by the local large bird population as a roost. Every day my car is getting absolutely splattered in long streaks of bird poop :bang:

Pidgeons, Doves, Rooks, Crows, Magpies even what looked like a feckin Raven the other day use them to sit and have a gossip to their mates. I reckon I might have to fit a row of those flexible anti-bird roost spikes along the length of the bars as the mess is driving me nuts. If I had a light coloured car it wouldn't notice but mines that deep metalic maroon red they used in the publicity shots and its absolutely perfect for showing off bird mess to its best effect.

lol, never thought of that, perhaps you can take em off. I thought you were going to say wind noise or car park height clearance.

Wind noise, only a problem when the cross bars are fitted . The Dobby goes into 99% of car parks easily, with usually just a 'Twang' on the roof aerial, but birds roosting...........Grrrr.

I have just wandered around the car looking at the mess. Over 50 bits of poop on it currently. Oh well time to dig out the bucket and sponge again, I guess.

As my brother says, "you will just have to drive it more, as they can't roost then"

can you not train a local cat to guard the roof ?

How strange. I've had my rails on for about 5 years & not had that problem!

Sludge, it must be something about where I live. We do seem to have a lot more large birds at home than a few years ago. There was something in the paper yesterday that said that red cars get pooped on more than any other colour. Perhaps its a conspiracy by the birds ? :shrug:

A simple & obvious solution would be, fit one of those half covers to your car.

My mates x bird was very large if she poopt on ur roof u wud be realy foobard lol!!!

Thankfully its mysteriously stopped as fast as it started so I didn't have to take excessive measures. I had about 6-8 weeks of mess and now they have stopped pooping all over my Doblo. Long may it continue.

Ahh... I bet they've found a nice soft top to go crap inside now it's stopped raining!
