Fuel filter light (water in filter warning) came on, took filter off, cleaned it, cleaned sensor which screws in bottom of filter, re-attached but light still on. My question is does the light have to be reset via plug in thingamejig? Cheers

(BTW filter is only about 6 weeks old and done less than 1000k)

Regardless of fuel filter life if theres water in the fuel its gotta be removed.

ive had the light come on many times, (must be poor supermarket fuel) and never had to reset the light to turn it off.. just the procedure you mention apart from new parts, never cleaned a filter. for what they are worth and what they do why not just a new one?

check seals in filler cap area and make sure no excess water getting in? pipes etc.

I was wondering if the sensor that screws onto the bottom of the filter might be faulty and if so are they available as a replacement. The problem I have is that replacement fuel filters are about 50 euros over here so reluctant to buy one just to try it!!

Helo Malagaman i saw your post i was looking for help and i think your problem is same as mine.I see this post is old but if you read it please give me advice what to do.
I have stilo 1.9 jtd 2002 and have the light in dashboard "water in fuel filter" i replaced today with brand new fuel filter, but i still get the message in my dashboard what could it be please help me. sorry for my bad english have good day

Hi Noli, Having cleaned and flushed the filter through, my light still stays on so for the time being I have unplugged the sensor at the bottom of the filter until I can sort it out. I'm assuming the sensor has become contaminated so I'll see if I can get a replacement.
