Hi folks,

wonderring if anybody out here might have any useful suggestions to make about the following.

I drive a 52 plate 1.9jtd doblo 100k on the clock. Since new this has suffered quirky and intermitent faults of many different types including occasisonal and increasingly frequent loss of power. Shortly after buying this a distant colleague who worked as an electrical tech for Fiat raised a knowing eyebrow, sighed and said that the first batch of doblos (2002) had a badly designed ecu which was subsequently redsigned for later models. Don't know if this is true but Fiat wouldn't acknowledge so or do anything about replcaing it.

Anyway... cut to the present and two weeks ago we needed to call out the AA as the car ground to a halt in a cloud of black smoke and a refusal to find any gears. The AA couldn't fix it and referred us to a local garage for diagnostic work. The mechanic reckoned the clutch and dual mass flywheel had gone but that we may also have engine/electrical probs. The plan was that we would (and have) replaced the clutch and flywheel at cost of £800 no less, get the car back on the road and see if the smoking stopped.

First drive alone having got the car back (after a successful test drive with the garage), the engine is struggling to rev, the turbo won't kick in and sods law says that as we pass a police car it belches out a huge cloud of thick black smoke, so I get pulled and fined for using an un safe vehicle and have to get the AA out to tow me back to the garage only to find they're now shut for two weeks as the guy in charge has gone to Morroco on holiday.

Previous diagnostics have shown faults with just about every thing with a sensor connected to the ecu (eg. egr valave , air mass, air temp, air flow etc.) whilst previous examination and repalcement of many of these parts and senors have failed to show or resolve any problems yet increasingly the car behaves as if it's in some sort of safe or limp home mode whilst belching intermitent clouds of very thick black smoke.

Am I barking up the wrong tree in continuing to blame the ecu, or atleast the bit controlling the engine management, and if not how do I get others to acknowledge that this might be the cuase of our irregular, changing and intermitent problems and what sort of costs am i looking at to get the ecu sorted?

Thanks

are these sensors on the same circuit? Worth look at a diagram.
