Hey, Today as its been sunny I had the window open and started to hear a rattling noise coming from the right front wheel. The sound was like a washer not done up and was rattling!

So this evening I took alook a dicovered the problem. I'm not machinicly minded so I dont know what the parts are called, so I bare with me! Basically where the rod is coming from the wheel, the rod run's through a hole and had a bracket which is meant to have three bolts running through to hold the rod in place. The three bolts are missing and the bracket it hanging hence the rattle. I can pull the rod out of where it is ment to sit. I've taking a couple of picture's to show you what I mean. I want to sorce these bolts asap. Can any one help what it is im looking for to get these bolts!!!!

Cheers Will

Hi mate, that isn't steering that is your offside driveshaft, there are 3 bolts 6mm thread approx 40mm long from memory(get them from Fiat and you know they are right length) .They retain that collar that stops the centre bearing coming out of support,DONT drive it if that bearing moves along shaft it won't be located and will be able to whip and will cause damage to gearbox and mounting. That plate has a slight bend on one side, that usually points towards bottom to allow roadspray out, dont point it upwards when you bolt it back or roadspray can run in and cause early failure of bearing.Hope this helps,John.

Hi again, just a thought,I've never had them come loose fall out. Have you had any recent work done,ie: clutch,cv boot, alternator,if so it possibly could be they were not fully tightened and worth returning it to where it was done for them to repair FOC,also as they will have been loose in plate for a while before they fell out, check condition of threads and apply a little threadlock on new bolts.John

Thank you so much. I spoke to Fiat and picked the bolts up (£2.80) and just fitted them! Yeah, I would have got on to the garage as I had my clucth replaced a month ago. However the garage is in France. Thanks again Will

p.s Now I need to sort my passenger window as its stopped work, Anythoughts?
