My van is putting out a hell of alot of black smoke recently i dont know what this cold be? but i was wondering if i disconnect the egr valve will my van go into limphome mode? or is it ok to disconnect it just to see if this makes a difference? or disconnect it for ever?

What is the best way to clean the egr solinoid and it components?

If it's doing it all the time it could well be an injector. I'd get go read/monitor parameters before diving in. (EGR's are common to stick on this engine)

No, that would prove nothing you would need to blank it off.

hi my car does the same around mot time & i put a bottle of forte (around £13 from a auto shop) in the tank & a new air filter (is yours new). also now i know you may laugh but just before i drive it into the test centre i stick a hose or jet wash up the exhaust for around 10 secs & when you start it back up there will be loads of black crap washed out which aint gonna be doing your emissions any good.
