Hello again all.

Well, after approaching 50,000 miles on the clock with barely a single problem, our beloved 1.9 JTD Diesel Doblo is starting to play up - the most serious issue of which being a complete "switch off" whilst in road-works on the M1 over the Easter period! (so was only doing 50mph, but instantly the vehicle "locked up" - and it was as if I'd switched everything off).

It came back to life (after standing idle 60 mins in the works access area - which is *fortunately* where we ground to a halt) - but problems persist since.

The latest being: I've noticed that despite the car running *ok*, as soon as I turn the ignition on / start the engine, the rev counter immediately goes up to a shade under the "10" on the dial (and stays there).

Note: I AM A COMPLETE NOVICE - and know little more than one end of the Doblo from the other(!) - but this isn't right, is it?

IF the case (i.e. a problem) - what needs to be sorted / looked at to get this fixed? - Likely side-effect of the serious issue we had on the M1? (AA checked it, cleared some error codes - and we drove off fine (100+ miles after the incident). The key issue was (apparently) that a sensor had overheated / failed (at the time) - on the engine (forget which one, again showing my ignorance - sorry!)

Cheers for any advice. Key concern for the moment is why / how the engine can be (now) showing revs above zero - when standing idle with engine on.

-John

PS The Doblo was serviced as recently as a month ago.. with no apparent problems at the time (though I've had other issues since..)

Just a quick update on this - a few days on.

Basically, no change. I still get approaching the "10" marker on REVS - when the engine (should) be idle (surely?)

The odd thing.. is that general performance seems *fine*!- but with a few concerns - such as a general clutch/burning sort of smell after driving to work (10 miles, rural route) this morning. But again, other than that no obvious signs of any issues (no juddery performance, engine *seems* at same volume when idle - despite revs up from zero.

Should I be concerned / get it looked at?

-John.

With the engine idling, the revs will show as being a shade under 10. the guage is read in multiples of 100 so 10 x 100 = 1000rpm. I reckon mine idles at about 850 - 900rpm which is probably about average and will show on the dial as a shade under 10.

Really, the AA shouldn't have cleared the codes without at least writing them down for you, the 'switch off' does sound like you need to get the car into a mechanic who can correctly interpret the codes

Just to confirm that mine idles at about 800rpm too. It's completely normal. I hope.

Not a regen.. the revs go up to 3000 while that is going on (on a forced regen that is).

Burning smell is more worrying.. could do with a good check up I think. :(

EGR valve fault can sometimes cause revs to rise a little as well.

Except for the smell I'd bet T14986 has it about right :)
