the dpf on my 07 19d multijet packed up a short while ago,a mechanic cut out the centre of the dpf and blanked the egr to give me time to get money together for the dpf,the car runs great but the engine management light wont go off, there is a strong parrafin like smell especially when reversing,i bought a new egr valve but the fumes are still coming and the management light is still on,will a new dpf stop the fumes ?

the reason the mechanic cut out the middle was so i could continue working the car,it wouldn,t go over 10 miles an hour before he cut it,mechanic said dpf was knackered ,fiat quoted me £1000 but i got a reconditioned one with a 1 year warant from clickcarparts (thanks to this site) for £350 including delivery, car passed an mot today and the fumes have stopped, still failed the taxi test though ,the sliding doors are not latching when opened and close when on a hill, hopefully this wont be an expensive repair im only keeping the car on for one more year

the engine management light is still on the code reader said (fuel temperature sensor fault)the mechanic is about to replace the door cables he said they only cost £30,i have had sponges inserted at the rear of the runners for over 2 years, i got fed up with passengers trying to force the doors instead of pulling the trigger, all the doblos in dundee have done the same,my taxi has passed the council test like this for 2 years but we now have a new tester who is the tester from hell,he is refusing to accept any dents no matter how small,2 dents in my cab are 3 years old and passed the test before he appeared,im going to talk to the taxi association leader about this

Interesting what you say about the rear doors. I've noticed that older people (who, you would think know what a trigger is) are confused by this mechanism - as are about half the teens who get in my car (son's mates) whereas the rest seem to instinctively know what a trigger is when you tell them to use it.

I reckon Fiat should have used the red plunger as the opening mechanism as it seems THE most obvious thing to use and perhaps put a lever on the handle to prevent the plunger being used (locking the door)?

good idea sludgeguts you should email fiat this info, this will be my last fiat as my taxi will be off all weekend because fiat dundee dont have the parts (door cable)they have constantly let me down taking an average 2 working days to get any parts ,i used to have a peugeot and was used to next day delivery on parts,i have been waiting on the cable since wed 9.30 am ,i may get it tomorrow
