Well, it just had to happen, come away on holiday & she decided to break down:(

I've been running her on a blend of Waste veg oil (wvo) and BP ultra since she was 1 yr old - with no ill effects - 10% through the winter up to 50% during the summer months.
Saturday I added 20 litres and drove to the garage to fill to the brim with dino. Drove 250 miles (A40/M6 was all pretty good going, mostly (cough) 70 -ish:devil: - ok, ok 90 - 95 but in my defence I was keeping up with plenty of others) then filled to the brim again with Asda's dino before continuing my journey to Windermere.
Sunday morning the engine turned but she wouldn't catch, the guy in the next chalet even helped out with jump leads but nothing.
Monday I called out the breakdown & he reckoned there was fuel at the filter but not getting through to the jets.
He ended up towing me to Rayrigg in Bowness/Windermere.
So far they've put in a new filter - she fired & ran for a while then stopped & refused to start. Next step is they are going to drain the tank completely & put in some fresh...

Sounds like HSBC's profits won't be relying on my millions this year

If you've been running on wvo for all this time ( a much higher mix than I have used BTW), it is possible that the veg has finally dislodged too many nasty deposits laid down by the dino & these deposits are playing havoc with the lift pump & filter?
Alternatively, maybe it's something you introduced with the wvo - I always filter down to 1 micron.
I can't believe it's to do with the wvo waxing, even the overnights aren't low enough now - and you were only at 30% blend with a further dilution when you topped up.
Nice fuel economy on the motorway though, especially given your speed(y)

I've always passed the oil through multiple filters.
I have a large clear plastic box with a tap about 2" off the bottom, I pour in my oil and leave for a month to settle out.
I can then tap the clear oil off the top of the sludge.
I then heat this up and filter through 1 micron - twice
Then finally, once cold (after a few days), back through 1 micron and into storage drums.
I am quite pleased with the fuel economy - especially since I had the aircon pumping away the whole journey.

Quick update.
The fuel was completely drained & some new fuel added along with a new filter & she still refuses to start.
Nest step is a spill test (?) to see what's happening at the injectors.
I reckon it's going to end up needing a new pump

I've told the garage that I get booted out of my holiday place on Saturday morning so hoping they see some urgency - although I also understand they will be getting hassle from people who have already booked their cars in for work.

Tomorrow I go to pick up a hire car to get me & the OH back home.
Seems the fix is beyond the dealer so they have sent my dobbin to a specialist in Preston for them to look at the fuel pump / injectors / ashtray / radio settings etc & those little bits of fluff under the handbrake:mad:

It never rains...

Set off in the hire car, a nice, shiny Megane.
Stopped at a little chef for breakfast, then got about a mile down the road and the bloody thing starts chugging, no power etc.
Eventually got through to the hire company who sent out breakdown - the guy reckoned a couple of the coil packs had gone & there was nothing he could do.
Then he spent an age getting through to hire company to tell them what had happened.

3 hours after originally setting off we finally got going.

Strangely, it was the same guy who came out when I called about my dobbin - he asked what was happening so I told him. He said there seemed to be a lot of Bosch pumps going down just recently, they did one only yesterday & the pump alone cost £500 (can't remember the car it was on).

What a day - it's not a great feeling when you're not in control of anything.

I've just got my poor old doblo back from the graveyard - had to have a new fuel pump & new injectors, new filter & a complete clean out of the fuel system. Not a cheap job

However, I have been running mine on waste veg oil for the past 5 years, up to 50% blend in the warmer months & down to 10% through the winter.
The engine has never missed a beat, always started first time - even in the depths of winter (and on original battery & plugs etc).
Everything filtered down to 1 micron including two passes when hot to eliminate water & being left to stand for a few months to settle out fats & sludge etc. & somebody at the garage had the cheek to leave a photocopy of the handbook's page on using ONLY approved diesel.
I also got a bit of a lecture about the lubricant properties of diesel over 'other so-called fuels'.

So maybe I should now buy into the bio scene? But will that be any different? Whilst bio has had the fats chemically stripped, it still won't have the lube properties of dino, and that's what (I am told) damaged my pump.

BTW Sludge, In my pm I told you I got 45mpg on the way up, doing similar speeds on the way back - this time it was pure dino - I averaged 38mpg, are the savings worth the enormous cost at the end of the day?
