Hi has anyone had their gear linkage snap so you are unable to select any gears? Mine has been welded before is it a common fault? I'll have to get it welded again and maybe get hold of a new part. 2001 Doblo Cargo Diesel

Yes its the one under the gator, AA guy selected 3rd gear for me underneath the bonnet and i drove it to my mechanic friend. Might need a sit down when I phone my local Fiat dealer for a replacement part.:(

Hi,have had this a couple of times on high milers, the half moon shaped piece of metal the cable connects to on base of lever breaks,I have welded both up and they've done in excess of 60k and no problems. They are plated with cadmium or galvy, ensure they are cleaned off before welding and also welded both sides. I repaired one that had previously been welded(I say that loosely:)) which had been welded one side over plating and not cleaned, this had just broken off again(only because of poor repair),I think theres a plastic bush in bottom of lever don't get this hot obviously.
Another thing worth noting is if the lever starts to travel further to select gears and lever is fine,it can be a good indication the cable is about to snap,as the travel is the last few strands holding the nipple on cable parting company, good luck and hope this helps.

Hi Liftex

Not sure how I managed to dislike your post, maybe trying to search the forum on my mobile isn't a good idea. Thanks for your post, its nice to know I'm not the only one who's had this trouble. Have sorted mine now with the removal of the linkage and getting it re-welded. Seems to have done the trick. Thanks again.

Hi mate, glad you got it sorted, wondered what I'd done:cry:,everyone else got a thanks and I got disliked:confused: and no thanks, only tryin ta help, still guess I'll get over it,oh I have:)

yes its a common fault, and a simple fix , the original weld fails where the gear lever is connected to a bracket which has a ball joint connection to the gears. i had 2 doblos and both gear lever have been re welded, gear selection sometimes can be quite difficult to find causing the driver to put extreme stress on the gear lever, it just aint designed to be that heavy handed with.

Interesting read - I've got an 02 JTD bought for spares that is stuck in gear. Sounds like an investigation into this linkage could possibly reveal a cheap fix. Would be a same to break it if it can be repaired relatively cheaply.

Hi mate, you can pop the two operating cables off linkage on top of gearbox(only plastic ball/socket) and see if you can maually select gears by moving selector on top of gearbox. If you can, then fault could lay with gearstick or cables sticking or starting to break(strands bind up in liner). If not probably internal box fault, hope this helps, shame to break it, regards John.

Just happened to me this morning, had to drive home 30miles in second gear, on inspection ta cable selector had snapped off the gear stick, If I can get one from the scrappy, how easy is it to change? 2004 JTD Doblo, how are the cables connected to the stick are they easy to remove? Aiuto from Italia!

Sorted! I got one from the scrappy and the geezer even came to my house and fitted the new lever, saved me the bother but not cheap 90 euros, Inglese prices I suspect!

Just had this problem on my 2008 Doblo 1.3 Multi jet Active.

2nd gear was suddenly difficult, then seemed to clear. A few days later the lever went floppy, with the engine stuck in reverse.
Garage have identified new part on order from Italy, £292 to supply and fit

I have a photo if it without the gaitor, I think I can see the plastic bit?
I’ve posted the video of it to YouTube, search for ‘ Doblo gear stick floppy’ and you’ll find it.
