General Hello!.. and a few questions

a couple of times when exiting a slow corner, it would barely accelerate at all, as if I was in too high a gear (maybe I was).. it took a while for revs to build and then it accelerated fine. Has anyone else experienced this?

The other concern is that on a couple of occasions I was going around left-hand bends leaving roundabouts. I was driving quite hard with the car rolling a fair bit and could hear a grinding or scraping noise which was quite loud. It was like the sound you hear from the disc brakes on a motorcycle when you push it around, only much louder.

Oh yes, there's also a squeal from under the bonnet. It increases a little with revs then disappears. Any ideas?

It's a diesel, for it to pull out of a corner, you need to drop down the box & so increase the revs, keep the turbo spinning - it'll help - don't worry, you'll get used to it.
Regarding the grinding as you take a hard left, might be worth checking the tyre pressures, that rolling could be low psi & the grinding might be the rims. Also, note it is a tall van so it will be forced to roll if you take it too hard. It might also be that the psi is fine & you were taking the corner a tad too hard - harder than the tyre walls can cope with.
The squeal is probably just a belt not tensioned enough.

changing from a petrol to a diesel will initially feel like pushing a turd up a hill with a piece of rope however, once you get used to the nuances you'll be amazed at just how hard it can be driven.

welcome to dobbie land ,emm yep lost of power pick just drop down a gear?
squealing prob the fan belt abit loose
hope this helps (y)

It's happened a couple of times since.. I wasn't in too high a gear; it's definitely the engine.

Re. the squealing belt.. it's got quite loud and annoying now. The drivers in front at the lights are looking around, thinking it might be their car :D
I had a look this aft and it's coming from down the left side of the engine. I can't see how to tension the belt.. how do I do it? I know, RTFM... i've just ordered a CD off eBay.

Ta for the welcome :)

Thanks Sludge, but I drive a diesel Transit pick-up all day at work. I know it's the engine playing up, not me!
The grinding was not the rims. I put 40psi in each tyre.
Re. the roll.. I had a gander underneath tonight. Those spongey 'spring assistors' appear to be knackered and need replacing. Does the axle actually rest on them, because mine is a way off?

Cheers for the link.

Gawd, more bloody money. As there's a few jobs to be done, I'm gonna ask a local garage to do them all. Is there much (or anything) to be saved by buying parts myself, as the garage would no doubt pay Fiat dealer's prices?

I'm getting stressed, thinking I was too hasty in buying this car. Lesson learnt I guess :( Still, I guess once everything is done, I'll have a sound, long-lasting motor (got to keep telling myself that!)

when I got mine I serviced it, timing belt, tensioner, 2 new tyres, front pads & done few other bits & bobs all part of buying second hand. I did budget for this however & theres always a risk buying secondhand.

once you get the car to the way you want & are used to it you'll love it(y)

Sorry to revive this thread, but I thought I'd add that the problem I had with losing power appears to have cured itself. It hasn't happened since I last mentioned it here and throttle-response seems to be a little better too.

I can only imagine that as the previous owner was a lady with a family, and likely just pottered about town, the EGR may have been coked-up, and that my giving the car some stick now and then has cleared it... Could this be the case?
