Got a new set of Headlights and rear lights for my dobbin.

Ive got everything i need to do my new mod.

I want to change all the rear lights to LEDS and i have brighter lights and ballast to fix into the existing headlights.

I know what to do etc its just has anybody out there got any idea how to get into the actual headlight itself? i can understand in some sense that the clear plastic on the front must be able to be detached!!

Its surely on there tight and is certainly sealed to keep out the water.

Anyhelp would be really apprieciated on this. i dont think it varys really from car to car so has any body got any hints or tricks to help me on my moddin way? :slayer:

thanks in advance :worship:

I have a 2001 model,If you lift the bonnet you will see a cover over the back of the lights that is held in place with a wire clip. After swinging them out of the way you should be able to prize off the covers and get access to the bulbs there's a fancy wire clip on the headlight.
Rear access on a van needs removal of a bolt or bolts that go through to hold on the rear assembly. Hope this helps.:)

Headlights are likely to be sealed units, with only access being via the bulb holder in back. They do take uprated bulbs though, got +50%s on mine.

Mine's an 06 (facelift) model and the lights don't appear to be sealed units. I changed my sides to LEDs and the damned things kept falling out of the holder, had to buy a flexi toool to pull them out of the light - but the LEDs nearly fell out of the bottom - between the clear plastic front and the reflector there is quite a large gap.

Hi all,

Thanks for the replys but i am trying to get into the actual headlight and need to remove the plastic clear lens from the housing.

without breaking anything! any tips on loosening/releiveing the grip from what sealant or material may have been used?

over and out

Before removing the assembly, park the car in front of a wall etc, turn on the lights & mark where the beams fall - for when everything goes back & you need to adjust.
With the lamp assembly out of the car if the lens and reflector are fused together,I would say they have used some sort of sealant & a decent stanley knife should be able to cut through this, if you do it nice and steady, keeping the blade flat and against the lens OR reflector.

I know that it is possible to put audi headlights into an oven on a low heat, this softens the adhesive and allows the removal of the lens to the body of the light. I would suppose that the same could be done with the doblo headlight.
However i would try heating the seal area carefully with a heatgun first and then trying to seperate a little area at a time before using an oven.

DISCLAIMER I would only try this if you are confident and competent and not a silly person. :p
