Hi all was wondering if anyone out there could give me a bit of advice. I run a 2002 Doblo car with the 1.9JTD engine just done over 101000 miles.
1- On starting up it squeels realy badly sounds like its coming from the belt area and i have been told it could be the bottom crankshaft pully? Anyone had this problem as they are quite expensive so dont want to replace unless necessary. It quietens down a bit after a few miles but never totally goes. If it is to replace has anyone tackeled the job and is it difficult? What would be the torque for the bolt?
2- When the other squeel quietens down enough you can some times hear another noise it sounds like a bearing rumble and comes and goes quite a lot never lasting for much longer than a few seconds. It sounds higher up the engine but as i say comes and goes so locateing is difficult.
3- Last problem now honest. The interoir fan only works on speed 4, been pointed towards a resistor can anyone tell me where to look??
Finally any advice on reasonable priced parts as we dont have many fiat garages up here in west cumbria so parts are full price?
Thanks for your help all.

i had a similiar problem with all the noises and we located many on mine, wasnt so bad once your running, just sat in taffic pulling away and some gear changes. ( mine 2003 with 50k - 35k at time of noises) i had lost my undertray and i had to replace all the pully system, belt and bottom crankshaft pully, tensioner and alternator. after that all the noise's gone. the weather gets to the crankshaft pully very easily.

i got my local gargae to do mine, i wont say the overall cost. it hurts too much. :-(

I just had my fan switch go at 100,000 and the slight fan belt type sound is happening.

I replaced the rotary 4 position fan switch from one from a scrapyard. There is wiring goes into the back of the rotary switch, so i guess the signal comes from there.

Hi,sounds more likely to be alternator pulley seized, they have an overun pulley that should spin freely, would be more noisy when started as the drain on battery is large and alternator is working hard to charge.
There is also an alternator belt tensioner that goes,if you are mechnically minded and release tension on belt, you will be able to check both by spinning, bearing in tensioner will be noisy and alternator pulley won't spin freely, also if you remove belt and start engine and noise gone problem usually in that area, can still be bottom pulley as no tension on it but unlikely, hope this helps,John

Sorry meant to mention, resistor is mounted in bottom of heater box, easily accessed, get a torch and screwdriver, slide passenger seat right back, look up under passenger side dashyou will see I think four wires on a plug that goes into the bootom of cowling, retained by one screw, leave to stand for a short while after using fan as the resistor can get hot, remove connector plug and screw and lower out resistor, refit is reverse procedure, cheap item genuine only about £15 inc vat I think, hope this helps,John.
