Doblo problem with key/locks

I have a 2004 Doblo van, very basic with no central locking. I bought it from a Fiat dealer (now closed) just over 3 years ago and was given 2 identical keys each with a blue plastic cap.

One of the keys didn't operate very well in any of the locks after about a year. I lubricated the locks, but it made no difference. I changed to the other key and that worked fine. I'm now getting the same problem with my other key!

I've tried lubrication again, but it makes things no better. The problem occurs in all the locks, even the passenger door lock which is virtually never used, so my thinking is the keys are the problem.

I searched the threads here and found mention of being able to order a key from the dealer using the chassis number. I've been to try to do that today, but I'm told a key costs 110+VAT (which seems excessive even for a dealer) and that there will be an extra charge for coding the new key to the vehicle. The parts man was also asking me about a red key, but I've never had one of those.

I've got 2 questions:
First, is there a regular problem with keys wearing (mine do have signs of wear in places)?
Second, is what the dealer told me right? I'm not convinced I've got a vehicle advanced enough to have coded keys!

Many thanks for any help you can give,

Phil

If you have a heavy bunch of keys, there going to bounce about in your ignition and wear the key and barrel.
Sounds like the keys are worn, If so, send one to me and i can replace with a new one 30 +p&p
