And now to top it off, it has started Cutting out when pulling up to a junction or Idolling. Some times the EML is on and somtimes off

She then some times hesatates on Excelleration
So fare I have changed the Crank / RPM sensor !No fix !

Diagnostic showed possible Fuel pump fault ! ££££££££££££[

From what I have read on here so far I guessing it could be any of the following

1 EGR Valve - Going to try blanking this 1st , then possible clean it
2 Air Mass sensor - Going to try unpluging this
3 Glow plugs
4 HT leads ??????????? are these the leads that attache to the glow plugs or same thing? " Glow Pluggs "

I am hoping to try these things befor I go any ware near the fuel pump !

If there is any on out there with any advise please do try to help as I am not in a position to by a new van and realy need to fix the van ASAP.

I look forward to any help you guys and girls can give

Kind regards Scott

I see that no one wishes to talk with me about this thread!!!! Lol:confused:

Today I have been playing mechanic and tried a few things :D

but long storey short I have unplugged the Air Mass Sensor and then run the van for around 10 miles around town.
She has not cut out once and is also not feeling jumpy on the throttle!(y)

If she does not play up this week then I think it is far to say that it is the Air Mass Sensor that is coursing all the hassle, and needs replacing.

And fingers crossed its FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!:slayer:

Well I should have known ! :bang:

Dont count your chickens till they are hatched !!!!!!!!!!!!!

She is back to square one without the Air Mass sensor being pluged in..

Please help me ! if any one has any advise it will be greatly recieved (y)

If it has the infamous Lucas Delphi Epic diesel pump i would 100% say that's your problem. Mine is currently being seen to.:bang:

I am biting the bullet, so I have know bocked the van in for full diagnostic testing with North Gate Fiat in Canterbury.

They have quoted me £62.25 + Vat per hour.
Apparently a full diagnostic will take 1 hour !!!;) Lets see

I am sure that they will then tell me that she needs a new Fuel Pump :bang:
But Im hoping it may be somthing else !

I will let you know ASAP

Hi there,
Take it to a good diesel specialist first, they are usualy pretty helpful, also they will probably tell you the problem is the actuators on the pump,I have just had my van done and its running better than ever, Paterson diesel in Cowdenbeath say they do 2x doblo's a week on average, the delphi/lucas pump gets about 50,000 miles before giving up the ghost, take a look at my thread "STUTTERING DOBLO" I went thru all the symptoms you have:D

The Lucas Epic pump is much maligned and whilst it certainly aint the best injector pump for alternative fuels, it maybe not as black as it's painted. Before spending shed loads of money I would eliminate the possibility that it's not just simply air in the system by changing out the suction and return fuel pipes for clear plastic after the fuel filter. I was recently advised by my local Fiat "specialist" that I needed a new pump (without them even lifting the bonnet!!!) and I feel that's their stock answer to all stuttering/misfiring issues as well as being a nice little earner. In desparation I changed out my suction/return fuel pipes for clear plastic and discovered loads of air bubbles. I then bypassed the filter and the bubbles went away so I chucked the filter and fitted a new one. The car is running like a Swiss watch and I just wonder how many pumps have been needlessly changed because of air ingress. The older 1.9D Doblo's do not have an in-tank pump and rely upon the suction of the injector pump to draw the fuel from the back of the vehicle. It's a big ask for the pump, it sure tests the integrity of every pipe joint and they do fail with age. Believe me, for the little money involved it's worth doing the clear pipe "air test" before laying out loads of money for a new pump you may not need.

My pump has now been taken apart for examination and the suspicion is that the previous "rebuild" was not substantial and that bearings etc were not checked or replaced. This after approx 20K miles running on Shell diesel with Millers additive.
This time i have been guaranteed a proper repair. I might add this is not being done in Fife. Not a lot of good publicity about this company, just a lot of complaints from unhappy customers.

We are having the exact same issues and I have teanslated your advice into french for our garage -we live in france- although they have done a diagnostic twice and are convinced till that the rotor arm is to blame. I am hoping the diagnostic can be wrong and have made a new post asking if it is possible

This may sound a bit rough but well worth a try!
With the engine running swiftly hit the 2 solenoids on top of the pump and see if the engine note changes. If it does that is your problem.
Just keep tapping it untill it runs smoothly you have a sticky solenoid or 2!!
This wored for me I brought a mint van for 200 quid wirh pump issues all I did was change a glow plug and hit the pump three times and now she runs sweet as a nut soy mint van has cost me 211 quid on the road including buying it! !
Good luck Steve

Hi Guys,
I have same sort of issue. Perfectly smooth 2002 1.9d just cuts out taking pas with it, then won't restart for 5 minutes, then cuts out again after a couple of minutes.

I've tried the solenoid tap as suggested here but no difference made.

I have changed fuel filter but still got the issue so I assume I'm getting air in the system as Paradox has suggested. My issue is that I am not sure which pipes I need to change out.

I have noticed that there is a t-piece in one pipe running between the filter and the Lucas pump. The piece coming from the T goes down to the first injector, and is wet with diesel. Also, the pipe then leading from that injector to the next injector is also wet with diesel. Could air be getting in from these points? And if so is it an easy fix swapping them out?

I have attached a pic as I don't really understand which parts people are referring to on previous threads.

Any help massively appreciated

Love it. You were lucky! Its not often that simple, but well worth trying.

One good thing about diesel pumps is they can be rebuilt in most casesand most if not all bits can be replaced. Good luck

For those without the vehicle in front of us..

Could you please add a pic and a brief description to help anybody reading this in months to come

Thanks
