Unhappy Doblo 1.9D Wont start...

Hi. My Doblo 1.9D wont start and im almost certain its an electrical problem.
I have replaced all four glow plugs with NGK ones (no easy feat due to serious lack of space) and also fitted a top of the range Bosch Silver battery and done the usual oil and filter change and fresh 50% mix of antifreeze, so a full service.
170 later and the van starts perfect everytime and runs lovely.
Last two mornings however the dashboard will light up as you turn the key, glow plug light goes out, turn her over and nothing...you can hear the relay klicking but its not even getting power to the starter motor, nevermind trying to turn over.
This makes me think its an immobiliser issue as the problem is very intermitent. After about 20 turns of the key yesterday she fired up and did so all day long as had a lot of short journeys to do. This morning after what must have been 40 attempts nothing.
Is it time to get a Mobile Electrician out at what is more than likely going to be a small fortune, or do you guys have any ideas.
Thanks Andy

Re: Doblo 1.9D Wont start...

Maybe it is the relay. Tried getting a mobile elctrician to sort it today but most have been either finished for xmas or very busy. Will have to sit over Jan untouched till I can get someone on it.
Keep suggestions coming though. I can only really think it could be a handful of things; A relay, Immobiliser issue, starter motor or ignition switch. but then the ignition is doing as it should so probably not that.
Just disapointed as the MPV is great in the snow i have found and now its not going to get any use and have to rely on my Saxo Vtr which is a great car but poor in the snow.

something that might work if you have jump leads put one lead to engine and one to battery negative might improve engine earth. the other is check diesel filter does not have water in it quite popular frozen water in diesel recently

Stating the obvious here, give the battery a full charge. ie after the glow plugs have sapped power theres not enough left to crank the motor. Possibly solenoid clicking to engage pinion in flywheel but not switching on the starter motor.

Turn's out it was a sticking starter motor. Had a good look on Boxing day and if you hit starter motor with a hammer handle and someone turns ignition key started straight away. Got another starter motor on the way from Ebay, so hopefully with all the servicing work ive done i'll now have a trouble free Doblo.

Re Doblo 1.9D Won't start.

...had a 128 moons ago. Your technique of the hammer and key-turn was our default starting method - showed delicate partner where to hit it and it worked every time. I was always sitting in the dry and the hammer was a permanent fixture in the passenger footwell. The inside of the solenoid gets mucky and corrodes around the contacts - assume Fiat still use the same design? A good clean and a blast of PTFE spray finally did away with the hammer. XX Finbarr
