hello

we own an 03 plate 1.2 petrol doblo, and it has the single rear door not the split type (sorry for not using technical language here but im not sure what its supposed to be called!) :)

anyway

in this morning's freeze i think my wife was over-assertive with the key and now she has broken the lock by forcing it. it has been stiff before i think mainly down to the colder weather so i used wd40 to make it a bit looser, but it went stiff again and now its gone completely.

so is it hard to replace or fix? and would i need to go to a fiat dealership to get it fixed.. tbh im not bothered about the same key being used in all doors, (too keep cost down)

so what do you guys recommend?

oh whilst i am here the dog (st bernard) chewed the back seat completely so im looking for a replacement rear seat (he's chewed the back not the whole thing but it looks unsightly!) are these sourceable? its the blue model incidentally

many thanks in advance

When the lock broke on mine (pulling the handle while unlocking like an idiot) I bought a new one from a Fiat service counter and fitted it.

VERY easy to fit, just need a screwdriver and take off the black plastic door cover on the inside.

It came as a whole new handle and lock. I separated what I needed. You have to specify central locking or not when ordering

Perhaps a breakers or Ebay?

Mine was frozen this morning. ALL of the doors were. To get into the back, don't even try to open from the outside. Open the other doors and then climb over into the back - pulling the lever on the inside opens the back door every time in my experience!

Take the back panel off first and check, the linkage may have just popped off

wife has now told me the key just spins in the lock and nothing happens

but the door is still locked, unfortunately we have a st bernard who does not take kindly to being brought in from the side door and over the back seat :)

so does this change things?

thanks for your help in advance though!

but the door is still locked,

Can you open it from the inside? On mine you can always open the door from the inside even if it is locked. Seems to override the lock.

 Of course - if you do this you may not be able to lock the door again afterwards.

You need to take off the plastic panel on the inside and try to look at the mechanism - perhaps post a few photos?

You will probably be able to spot something that isn't connected.

hmm ive never tried to open it from the inside, ill see if i can do that tonight when i get home from work and have a good nose inside :)

thanks guys, ill take some pictures if its bust and see what to do from there

Don't forget, if you open it then it might not lock again!

no i am well aware of that, but until i can find out what is wrong i might have no other choice

the missus doesnt go back to uni until the 10th so ive got some time to sort it

I don't know if this will help. On my 05 plate Doblo if I push the tailgate bodywork next to the lock it unlocks itself. Not too hard because the metal starts flexing and I don't want to do that.
Incidently, as I'd rather have a tailgate that locks properly, does anyone have any ideas? I've tried adjusting the striker plate but even when locked it will still open when I push.
