Hi all

My car is now 5 years old and has done 48,000 miles.

Excuse my mechanical ignorance - is this the type of job that can be done by any reputable mechanic, or is it best done at a Fiat dealer?

I can get the cambelt, (kit) water pump and auxiliary belt done for £300 via a mechanic friend. Two local Fiat dealers are quoting £450 or £510.

Thanks.

Thanks all

If opinions are OK. then if it were me I would probably go down the independent route.

I am just changing from a 5yr old Berlingo (with 100k on the clock) which is now due it's first cambelt change. I am going to get it done as my son will use it to learn to drive in a years time. Probably not relevant to the Doblo but my trusted independent reckons it's 3hrs labour on the Berlingo so I'll probably get genuine parts and give them to him to fit. I would have thought as long as your chap has the relevant experience then it shouldn't be an issue and I don't suppose it would add any value to the car if you took it to a main dealer (I know it wouldn't with mu old one).

I have just bought a 120 bhd Dynamic and am hoping it will be as reliable as the 2.0 HDI Berlingo was.
