I have a JTD Doblo van with 160k, it starts easily but the first few hundred yards it does not like to respond to the accelerator, if I put my foot down in first gear it creeps up to around 3k then gets going, when its done its first 600mtrs then all seems well, there is one other thing that I have noticed and thats there seems a little less turbo boost then it had a month ago, apart from that all is good

I really need some help with this please, since my post I lost all turbo boost, fuel consumption dropped about 5mpg, I then borrowed a MAF from a Marea JTD and my turbo boost returned but at higher rpm, however the cold start problem has got worse, when starting from cold the engine will not rev and has no power, tonight after the van had been stood all day I started it but it did not have enough power to drive into my drive which is a small incline, after ticking over for a few minutes it then returns to normal, any ideas would be very welcome

Ok.
A long shot, could the oil be old and thick making the turbo hard to spin? When did you change the oil and filter? Also the same with the air filter, is the exhaust clogged and is the particulate filter OK.

thanks for the above, I will try oil and filter change at the weekend, the air filter was changed not long ago as the previous one fell to bits at an early age, sorry for the dumb question, whats the particulate filter and where is it

Modern Diesels have a filter in the exhaust to catch particles of soot, some cars have a replaceable filter that is changed at fairly big mileages. Yours will probably have a cleaning cycle built into the electronics. What happens is the engine will overfuel this causes the filter assembly to get very hot and burn off the soot, if yours has this feature it will say in the handbook.
Assuming your timing belt is well within its time/mileage limit it may be an idea to run the engine at max throttle/revs for 3 or 4 minutes in second gear to force any crud out.

I am still at a loss with this problem, strangely enough fuel consumption has increased to over 50 mpg compared to 41-44 a month ago, should I try injector cleaner in my fuel tank ?

I would just say to let the engine get some heat in it, allot of turbo vehicles aint very nippy when cold, so for the first mile or so just keep the revs down while the engine is cold, it will also help the engine last longer :)

Landrovers are bad for being soooooo slow when they first start off when cold

thanks for your input, its not so much slow but more lacking power, even on a vey slight incline I cannot go forward if I have started from cold, if I put my foot to the floor in neutral when first started it takes around 20 seconds to get to 2000rpm

Hi there,
I get the same problem now and again. I put injector cleaner in now and again and it does make a difference.
Also enjoy roaring down the Mororway in second or third gear to clear the rubbish. Seems to work for me.
