Hay all, long time reader first time poster. (how cheesy is that) ha.

Just bought a dobby 2003 jtd & couple of things need sorted...

1st, the instrument panel is totally dead no rev counter, no speedo, no fuel, no temp, no miles display. But all exterior lights are working ie heads, indacators, brake, horn so on. I know the last owner tried to replace them with what looks like a newer version of the instrument panel but it didn't work. My plan is to get the correct panel & change it over, any thoughts ?

2nd the central locking is not working (dunno if it's connect to the panel fault) but the only key I got with the van is the blank (non-button) type. But when I put the key in the door & turn it, it only locks that one door. Same from inside if you lock a door none of the other doors lock at the same time. Any thoughs ???

Thanks in advance Davy. Ps, if anybody knows of any dobbys dismantling in northern Ireland that'd be great.

Quick update...

Ok, just to recap the original clocks are totally dead no hands working or no digital display.

Right I when to the local breakers & they only had the new style clocks so I borrowed 2 set to see... I plugged in both sets one after the other & they both lit up the digital display but none of the hands would work on either set.

So I'm thinking the original clocks are frigged & that the new style clocks are not fully compatable with my model. Can anybody shine any light on that?

I'm gonna try another couple of breaker yards tomorrow to see if I can get identical clocks & il drop in with a clock specialist to see if he can test the original clocks. Fingers crossed!

Secondly any ideals with the centrial locking?

Another quick update...

I've just noticed the difference between the older clocks & the new ones is that the speedo & rev counter are back to front, as are the fuel & temp. This prob explains why the digital display will light up but the hands won't respond.

So new style clocks deff not compatable as regards changing from the old style.

Ok people, sourced a set of clocks identical this evening & plugged them in.... Yes dead, totally dead. Plugged in the newer type clocks & same storey, the digital display comes up but no hands are working :•(

Please if anybody has experienced this problem please help. I haven't a clue what to try now, that's x4 sets of clocks I've tried now x2 old & x2 new style. Old ones not doing anything & new ones just bringing up the miles/time display.

True, I've come to the conclusion it's a non-central locking model.

What is the CAN network ???

Indeed I did fit the up market clocks to my 1.2 that only had a speedo & Fuel gauge.
The later clocks are a definite no no they just don't work.
I tried the later clocks and the only thing to come on was the seat belt reminder.
There must be an issue elsewhere, the speedo head talks to the body computer and also to the ECU so one of these will be faulty or possibly wiring etc it may be an idea to pop it into a Fiat dealer or a Good auto electrician who knows his stuff for a diagnostic check.

Yes I think the next step is a good auto-electrical man. I've try 2 sets of each type of clocks so it's now most likely some sort of bsi/control unit, either that or it needs some sort of calibration (I've tried leaving the battery off for 10m) I had bought the van off a polish chap with poor English so I'm not even sure what clocks I should be using also it had been parked up for 6-8mts & the battery was flat so dampness or jump starting may have caused it, but the hand book states that 1.9jtd is the type with the speed on the left side.

Never the less I will be leaving the van with a well knowen auto-spark next week, in the mean time anybody with any suggestions fire away!

Yep, all fuses are tip-top. Just dropped the dobby off at the autospark & he says fiat electronics are simple (love his confidence!) here's hoping he'll sort it.

Bump.

Ok, just off the phone from the auto-electrical man & he says he has tried to re-load lost data, but no joy. He said on his diagnostic equipment it was showing up as a punto, I take it fiat use punto software in the doblo shell (essentially a doblo is just a punto in a van body) would that be right? He advised me fiat would be the next port of call.

I've just read a few treads on changing the clocks on a punto & the ecu still having the info of the old cluster stored & not able to fully recognise the new cluster until a "proxy realignment" is carried out by the fiat dealer...

Can anybody shine any light on this? I really don't want a £4-5-600 bill from the fiat garage if possible but it looks like I've no other choice but to take it to them.

The auto spark didn't charge anything, tho he give me the feeling he didn't go to deep into it at all, but in these parts he has a good name for high end electrical faults & repairs.

I rang the local fiat dealer to book it in & got chatting to a very helpful chap, and this was his proposal... £56 to hook it up but no garentee it would show any fault in relation to the cluster fault, 2nd is to order new cluster (£418) & new body computer (£450) & fit them, 3rd if fault still hasn't cleared then new ecu (no price quoted) I though that was a bit ott.

After that phone call I've sorta lost heart in the van & don't know what way to go now.

A good mechanic friend offered to fit a kit from another van (cluster+body comp+ecu+) no more then £250-300max, I'd be happy with that if it worked.

I've to do a little more checking & testing myself (I dabble a little in electronics) then see from there.

doblo instrument fault

Also you say it works on the CAN network, please could you give me a quick break-down on What the CAN network is & how it works in fiats, I tried to google it but the description was a little vague to say the least.

Again thanks in advance:worship:

I did try another second hand cluster from the scrapyard but it just showed all the same symptoms as the old ones, the fiat chap was thinking that the pcb in either the body computer or the ecu could be damaged due to jump starting.

Re:doblo instrument fault (YouTube clip added)

Only me again.

Took this short clip just to show how the cluster powers up but no hands respond.

Still not sorted out. So thinking about sending the body computer & instrument cluster to bba reman.

Has anybody used bba reman? If so how long would the service take roughly? & how do you go about sending them the goods?
